I am having trouble with logging tracks & distance traveled I reset it before I set out, so I clear everything and switch off, at the start of a walk I switch it on and leave it to record the tracks etc when I check at the finish the track is shown but with a straight line from where I set out to drive to the start of the walk which gives the wrong distance i.e. it is recording the journey from home while it is switched off also I am having trouble with the trip odometer not recording properly is there somewhere I can get more info than that which comes with the unit

    Oregon 400t -- WAAS Accuracy

This is to report my experience and ask that an improved procedure might be recommended. This is my first handheld and I am new to such GPS use.
To check this refurbished unit's WAAS accuracy, I used the following procedure:
I went to Google Earth (GE), and picked a very spedific location near my home that I could accurately access, in this case, the center of a sidewalk intersection adjacent to a street intersection. Using GE, I recorded the Lat/Long for the specific sidewalk-intersection location.
With WAAS enabled, all caliration options performed, and all updates installed, I placed the unit on the location and let it sit for a time before setting a WayPoint.
I compared the unit's Lat/Long WayPoint with that of the one reported by GE. The Lat difference was 2.024 feet. The Long difference was 2.6349 feet.
My math skills are insufficient to compute the Long distance of one degree at my lat, which is 38 degrees. Therefore, to obtain the Long distance for this assessment, I chose and used the published location for New Orleans, the one-degree of Long distance for 30 degree Lat.
Per my assessment, this unit appears to be functioning under/better than Garmin's published WAAS-locked claim of 5 meters.
