Bring Back Google Maps

The Bing maps are ugly and show little detail. Bring back Google Maps!

    Feature request

In "Settings" -> "Display Preferences", I'd like to see a Google Maps/Bing toggle button! Please!

    (i.e. bring back Google Maps!)

Tonight when I uploaded a run, Bing wouldn't even display the street map until I zoomed out to 1 mile scale. Please give us the option to utilize Google Maps.

In the meantime, I'm using buckeyeoutdoors.com. It's also free, syncs directly from Garmin devices, but uses Google Maps.

I'll be there until GC is fixed.
  • What were they thinking?

I would love to know which marketing genius decided to change Google maps for Bing!
I'm just trying to imagine the meeting where this "master marketing genius" was trying to sell Bing to his boss, explaining how this was the future of maps and that Microsoft was the leader. I feel sick now!
If Garmin does not give user the options to choose which map to use, this would show that they don't really care about serious users and I would definitely rethink my next purchase.

Switching from Google maps to Bing: bad move. Really, really bad move! There is virtually no information in the Bing map compared to Google, at least not in my area. And all suppliers of geographical information in my area (such as foot, ski and bike tracks) are using Google maps, so comparison/overlays with my Garmin tracks is no longer possible. Like everybody else on the forum, I contemplate switching to SportTracks for handling my Garmin activities. And I have one less reason for choosing a Garmin device the next time I buy a GPS.

I agree. The Google maps were much better - I can hardly make out where my house is. Also, has anyone noticed a deterioration in accuracy since Bing was introduced? I always found the GPS to be very accurate. But now I can't seem to get a reliable start point from my house when previously it was bang on. Intuitively I don't believe the issues to be linked but the lack of accuracy happened as soon as Bing was introduced.

OK, I've taken my time to look for two specific things here.

    1) some official statement describing the reasons for the change to Bing
    and
    2) any user feedback supporting the change.

All I can find are users like me who now have to put up with this huge backward step and want Google maps back. Can anyone provide any info on the reason and/or support for the change?

    Remember maps

Another maps thing: why doesn't GC remember the place I've viewed last? I mean, everytime I check "Explore" I get a view of the USA or Germany. As far as I can remember I still live in the Netherlands...

I agree with this one, let the user pick their preferences

I think (!) it's because of some contracts they've got

This request has been posted many times. I've copied your post to the appropriate thread on the feature requests forum. Also in that thread is a workaround using a Firefox plugin.
