What did you do GARMIN!??? I call out to everyone, to post their disappointment here. Let GAMIN know that they have ruined one of the best features of having a garmin watch. I loved to watch where I had been marching or running, but that is ruined now.

WE WANT GOOGLE MAPS BACK!!!

To the developers:
1. Please explain why you choose to ruin the fun of having a garmin watch?
2. Are you even thinking about changing it back? or will we just have to live with it?

    Another voice of discontent

Garmin don't seem to be heeding the posts in this forum. The annoying thing is that one gets the impression that posting here is about as useful as a one-legged man at an arse kicking contest! Why are there no answers from Garmin explaining how much the Vole payed them, or which other factors might have justified this extremely unpopular decision?

In "Settings" -> "Display Preferences", I'd like to see a Google Maps/Bing toggle button! Please!

    Thanks!

Bing is worse than merely UNACCEPTABLE

I've been using garminconnect for several years and was so happy with it. And then they do this. That's OK. Go ahead and slap your customers around. So what if its free? I'm now looking for a site ( free or not) to transfer my stuff and move on.

I think that changing from Google to Bing, from a marketing point of view, is purely idiotic. I always bragged and plugged my Garmin 305. At the very least two runners bought the 305 as a result of my enthusiasm for it.Of course, as of right now, it's a whole different ball game.
  • Echo: Inferior

Hmm, I thought I remember running next to a river in miles 1 and 6, and I don't remember running into the ocean during miles 3 and 4. Pretty basic things Bing (bottom map) has completely missed, as well as many roads and road names missing that are up-to-date and correct in Google (top map). Garmin, please, realize this is a very stupid mistake.
  • Bing Maps is certainly a step backwards. Unfortunately Garmin don't have a great record of listening to customers feature requests. I used to love Dot Racing in MotionBased, and despite many pages of "please bring it back" it has never appeared. Also many requests to be allowed to manually enter Body Fat % in the Health section without having to purchase a Tanita Weighing Scale.

Perhaps Garmins preference is to develop Corporate relationships with the likes of Tanita and Microsoft, instead of listening to the "voice of the customer". I still yearn for the days of MotionBased which was the first and best option back in the good old days. And while some improvements have been made, none of them, in my opinion, have been revolutionary.

I have years of activities recorded with GC. It practically impossible to move away as there is no mass export of activities (is there?). I would guess that is another deliberate strategy to retain customers. In some cases not willingly.

Happy Christmas everyone, the map issue will most likely be resolved by next Christmas, not by reverting to Google Maps, but through Bing catching up with Google functionality. No doubt Google will have pulled ahead with more innovation by then, which MS will still be chasing, and we will be playing the "catch up" game indefinitely.

been using ridewithgps.com for recent rides - like it - faster than bing and does almost all the same things garminconnect did
  • An alternative?

It does indeed seem that Garmin aren't listening to the needs of their users.
The best way may indeed be to vote with your feet.
I for one am fed-up and have today uploaded my activities to http://ridewithgps.com
Early impressions are very good: pleasant interface, quick to load, and easy to see stats in one screen without the need to scroll.
    Try it!

Just adding my voice. Google has GREAT information on paved local trails/greenways - in fact, when I travel, the first way I look for running paths is to zoom in to google maps and look by local rivers/canals/lakes for trails.

Bing Maps = no information whatsoever on any trails, just looks like I'm running off road so I can't see what the name of the path was or anything like that. Not a giant deal, but still, not exactly an improvement.

Gfix extension works great though - thanks very much to the author!
