As the title says or failing that, is there any other software that we can use that utilises google maps?

Google Earth is quite good. Export your activity to a GPX file.
Open up Google Earth and from the menu select Tools > GPS.
Select the radio button "Import from file" and browse to your activity.
To see Speed, Cadence, HR etc, drill down in the places panel from
Temporary places > gpx GPS device > Tracks > untitled
Right click on untitled and select "Show elevation profile" to show graphs of Speed, Cadence, HR etc
  • Try runkeeper.com. I just uploaded a run there and it works very nicely and uses Google Maps! It's beautiful, as the map window is much larger than GC and even has built in mile markers...FWIW, I noticed the new Bing maps uses a really thick red line, whereas the plot for Google Maps is a thinner and more transparent pink.

Thanks for your runkeeper.com advice, it seems quite useful and at least they use Google Maps. My country is totaly useless with Bing maps, such a bad move from Garmin...

Yep move away from Connect and move to Runkeeper. I like the advice given in the quote below as well, slick little page/site

Big maps seem to work OK for me. Running FF 3.6.12 on WinXP SP3.

I actually think Bing maps have better resolution than Google maps and seem to be updated more frequently.

I wish Garmin would allow that little map window to be expanded though. Whew.

If you want to export your data & plot it on a Google map, take a look at this thread on GMap4.

I have been using GMap4 for months now and it works great for me! Here is a sample from a recent hike:

  • Move to RunningAhead.com. I already have. Plus, you can keep track of your shoe mileage there.

I don't see maps for any of my prior runs at all. Luckily I always upload my data not only into GarminConnect but also into RunningAhead.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I have bookmarked RunKeeper and RunningAHEAD and will try them over the weekend.

They both look like good options :)

Here is another option for cyclists http://ridewithgps.com/

Also, how does one pull all the data off the garmin site (ie calender, ride data etc)?
