Change to Bing maps disappointing

Former Member
Former Member
Hello,

I'm disappointed in the switch to Bing maps. The "far" view in both map and ariel is much more distorted than the previous version with google maps. It also seems that the terrain view has disappeared. I assume this was done as a cost saving measure, but from a user perspective, it's a loss of functionality.

However, I still love my garmin as a training tool, and has been helpful in my quest for my first full marathon in early december.

How Garmin Destroys Chrismas for us...

After the latest downgrade...aka another footbullet...!!!!!!!! I am not sure why I even bother with this product anymore... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.. YOU ARE DESTROYING EVERYTHING BY USING BING, HOW HARD IS IT TO GET IT INTO YOUR HEADS!!!!!!

WHEN IS BIRDS EYE VIEW COMMING TO NORWAY?????? 2050 or LATER? ..insert sarcasm...

Garmin Connect with Bing Areal view:
    " />">

Garmin Connect with Google Satellite view:
    " />">

Garmin Connect with Bing Road view:
    " />">

Garmin Connect with Google Map view:
    " />">

And where is that Terrain View?
Where are all the Panoramio photos I've placed on the maps over the years?

Talk about being disappointed cant even start to grasp the surface of it. When it took you guys about 2 years to bulid up this product to something that works great for many people, it took you 1 month to destroy it for everybody.

If Garmin havent understood it yet, then I can say it out loud: The longer you keep on doing this, the more customers you will loose! (There will be no Garmin Christmas presents from and to this household this year)

I feel lucky that I happen to do most of my running in a major US city, but even there... I mean look at all the overlapping text in the attached snapshot. Bing is a disaster.

    FYI: http://garmin.blogs.com/my_weblog/2010/12/the-latest-on-garmin-connect-terrain-view-compare-activities-like-buttons.html

    Two simple questions for you:

    1) How do I enable "terrain view"? I'm not seeing it.

    2) Can I use Garmin Connect with non-Garmin products, such as Polar watches etc?

    wtf

Garmin really have gone to town
1st they downgrade to bing maps
2nd they keep out of the way while the s'#t hits the fan
3rd they pretend to have listened to their upset customers and say they have made changes to address the problems yet it is still no better.
4th just to see how far they can push their users they shove the Christmas give a garmin down our throats everytime you log on to gc.

Garmin get off the christmas booze ,sober up and sort your mess out before your customer's stuff you like the turkeys you are .

Bing maps not showing up in China

I have gone out for several runs in China, where I am on assignment

    1) Bing maps coverage in China is virtually non-existent compared to Google maps. And we are talking about quite a major city here. There is an astounding lack of detail, i.e. city streets and landmarks. Only the highways show up.

    2) Today, I went for a 10km run. After uploading the run to Garmin Connect, the map does not even appear!:(

Garmin, please resolve the above issues.
  • Relax, Cecil is happy to help us!

The same old story received on 13 December (sadly like a broken record stuck on a song that you don't like, i.e.; Last Christmas, I gave you my...)

    Dear Mr. Timlen

Thank you for contacting Garmin International!

I am happy to help you with this.

I was given your contact information and that you are looking into the recent switch from Google mapping to Bing mapping, I was able to find the following information for you below. We are listening to the feedback on this switch and I do apologize if this has caused you any issues. As far as any future changes back to the Google map option I am not aware of anything at this time. If you need anything else please let us know.

Garmin has a rich history of collaborating with industry leaders, and using Bing maps with Garmin Connect provided an opportunity to build upon our existing relationship with Microsoft. Garmin Connect users will continue to enjoy all of the familiar mapping features and functions that bring more than 40 million saved activities to life, and working with Bing will lead to more exciting developments in the future.

    Best Regards,

    Hello:

I would also like to add my disappointment over the switch from Google Maps to Bing. Don't get me wrong, some of the features on bing are good, and I do use it from time to time. BUT Google provides a much better service.

If Garmin is listening, please go back to Google, or better yet give us the choice.

    -Jeff.
  • Just another p#*%ed of Garmin customer

Just want to add another post, from another customer who is not happy with the switch from Google Maps to Bing.

Hope you make a lot of $$ from Microsoft for this move Garmin, because you sure are losing a lot of money from paying customers like me who will look at other options for our next GPS.

In fact, we have a really nice DeLorme that my wife loves - I will look a lot harder at DeLorme for my next upgrade.
