Change to Bing maps disappointing

Hello,

I'm disappointed in the switch to Bing maps. The "far" view in both map and ariel is much more distorted than the previous version with google maps. It also seems that the terrain view has disappeared. I assume this was done as a cost saving measure, but from a user perspective, it's a loss of functionality.

However, I still love my garmin as a training tool, and has been helpful in my quest for my first full marathon in early december.

Bing Maps are useless for trail running - there's just no detail.
Here's a good comparison of one of my training areas :

    Google
    http://g.co/maps/erw5s

    Bing
    http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=-36.78783292853737~174.4231071207548&lvl=16&dir=0&sty=r&form=LMLTCC

Not only are most of the trails absent - but Bing manages to ommit an entire lake! What's the point in having a map in the first place if there's no detail of where you've been ? And how do you export routes from Bing ?

From what I can gather - there's a Microsoft equivalent of Google Earth, but you have to pay for it

    Bring back Google Maps !

    no Garmin reaction

It looks like Garmin don't care at all what people says or write!

My Area in switzerland is not covered at all too, no hills no forest and a street map which is only showing the speedway

    have a nice day

    So disappointed with Garmin

Recently spent a fortune on the Edge 800 (full bundle and city maps), Just getting used to it when Garmin make a stupid decision to switch to the vastly inferior Bing maps! What poor business judgement. Customers will leave in droves.:mad::mad:

    Note to Garmin....

Allow YOUR customers to have a choice: Google or Bing. That will tell you which way to go.

    Bing maps very disappointing...

Far as I can see is over a year where people is being asking for a change with the maps feature... Is actually very dissapointing to find out a company does not listen/care what customers have to say...

    Let's hope this changes...

Maybe because the sum total of the posters is possibly about 0.1% of those who use it and thats not enough to encourage them to spend money doing something that loses them money. I seriously doubt that a significant percentage of customers give two hoots.

Just because there's a thread with 37 pages doesn't make it a priority does it ?
  • For Firefox user,

    Install Greasemonkey

Then install Garmin Connect Google Maps script

After you done that, take off your pants and show your butt to Microsoft. Let them know how sucks Bing is.

If you use Chrome, there is a fix. Add an extension called Gfix.

In the Google Chrome web store, do a search for Garmin or Gfix and the app will pop-up. Install it and Google Maps will be restored. Unfortunately, it won't be restored for the "player", but it will be just fine on the main page.

I also agree with everyone else. Please bring back Google Maps!
