Change to Bing maps disappointing

Hello,

I'm disappointed in the switch to Bing maps. The "far" view in both map and ariel is much more distorted than the previous version with google maps. It also seems that the terrain view has disappeared. I assume this was done as a cost saving measure, but from a user perspective, it's a loss of functionality.

However, I still love my garmin as a training tool, and has been helpful in my quest for my first full marathon in early december.

A picture is worth a thousand words....

Take a look at my ride today in Seoul, Korea, comparing the aerial view and the "maps" view. What a joke the map view is. Note on the (correct) aerial view, that I only cross the river once.

While the aerial view is accurate, you can see that the resolution is terrible. It looks like the pictures were taken through a lens smeared with vasoline.

Garmin, you really blew it on this one. It is going to affect your bottom line, as the cool feature of Garmin Connect is now gone. The maps were a selling point, but now they add no value.

Bing is Terrible! Bring Google Earth back

You might as well have no maps whatsoever. Bing maps are terrible. If I knew you were going to take away Google Earth maps I would never have spent several hundred dollars on your product

Any official word on why they switched?.... Seems like an awfully idiotic move considering the response...

    Inferior

Adding my view that bing maps is really inferior to google maps, at least in the areas I use - Blue Mountains west of Sydney, poor detail in the maps and missing aerial coverage.

    Bing maps useless...

best feature in old Garmin Connect was the Google map.
BING maps is at its best useless.

Goodbye Garmin and all of your training products.
    Hello Polar.

What irritates me are the following things:

    1) No clear announcement prior to doing it.
    2) No apparent research before hand as to whether or not users would prefer it.
    3) Making the switch before any gain has been made by using Bing (assuming that it in the end will be better using Bing).
    4) Not rolling back to Google maps when virtually ALL comments are negative.

    Stupidity?
    Ignorance?
    Incompetence?

    All of the above?......
  • So disappointed. I emailed my thoughts to Garmin and was told the standard company line. I've completely stopped using Garmin connect, time to start researching Polar, nice work listening to the customers Garmin.

    Compare Google Maps to Bing

Here is a comparison of the same route in Seoul, Korea. Google maps vs Bing.

WTF? Garmin, this is completely unacceptable!

I think the timing for them is perfect to change to Bing. Pick the time when people are using the devices the least and just sneak it in there and see if people notice........

bing is short term move which will cost garmin in the end

i've never been so frustrated with a product that i actually wrote in a forum or to customer service. well garmin just gave me my motivation.

the move to bing maps has significantly downgraded the whole gps experience. i've recommended garmin gps watches to several people. now i will think twice. the bing map is obviously inferior to google as most microsoft products are. my trail runs used to look so great on google, could even make out singletrack routes easily. now with bing i can barely tell what zip code i'm in. the map is grainy and has no information about where the run took place.

i'm so frustrated and just hope that the mounting frustration with users gets back to garmin and they think over their decision.
