Change to Bing maps disappointing

Former Member
Former Member
Hello,

I'm disappointed in the switch to Bing maps. The "far" view in both map and ariel is much more distorted than the previous version with google maps. It also seems that the terrain view has disappeared. I assume this was done as a cost saving measure, but from a user perspective, it's a loss of functionality.

However, I still love my garmin as a training tool, and has been helpful in my quest for my first full marathon in early december.

Bing sux - give us a choice please!

Yup - your users have spoken [I get it, this is "free" -- let's not forget how much the device cost, and the service is kinda part of that acquisition cost].

A year ago I was running around with my laptop showing everyone the Google Earth view in GC. Now, I'm embarrassed. BING is inferior in every way.

    Give users a choice, please!

...more frustrated users beaten down by some lame corporate alliance.

    bring back google maps

+1 for another disappointed, frustrated, embarrassed user who also misses Google Maps. Why would you guys switch to an inferior product? Please bring back Google Maps, or give us the choice which map we use.

    Bring back Google Maps

Bing maps are rubbish - either revert to Google Maps, or give users the option of doing so.

Until then, I will no longer be recommending purchasing Garmin equipment to my friends. Timex have an excellent new range of GPSes check them out: http://www.timexironman.com/Products/Global_Trainer_GPS.htm
  • Bing maps isn't good

Bing maps isn't good. Please add option to choose Google maps or better add Google maps as default maps.

I uploaded 87 rides to "RideWithGps" this afternoon.

If Garmin does not bring back Google Maps before the end of the year, the other 153 plus rides move too. As well forget about me purchasing the Edge 800 or any future model.

    bye bye garminconnect

just completed migrating all my run data in .tcx format to a free account in runningahead.com. it stores all of the data and displays them in a manner that i find adequate and certainly up to par if not better than garminconnect. i also downloaded yesterday's run directly from my GF305 with no problems. best of all it uses google maps! :)

    Another dissapointed user

I came back from a holiday to find out that Garmin has changed Google maps.

Bing maps are useless. Thanks to Bing, I am now like one of those biblical characters who walk on the surface of the ocean. I found myself running on the Brisbane river, and riding my bike "where streets have no names"...actually they don't exist (and I am not riding my bike in the middle of nowhere).

Who was the genious who proposed this change?...and who was the genious who accepted it??

    and other disappointed user...

    yep,

bing sucks. I do not see the point of changing from google maps and would like to have at least the option to select preferred map service.

bing is useless. garmin, please reconsider.

I actually think Bing maps have better resolution than Google maps and seem to be updated more frequently.

Certainly not the case in Australia, lower resolution, far less ability to zoom (if trails or roads actually exist on bing maps that is), and way out dated over here compared to Google mapping.

Why would Garmin care about us in Aus though when we are probably only 1% of its market ? :(

I sell and support garmin product (amongst others) and demoing GC often clinches the deal over Polar, Suunto, Timex etc, but I have stopped doing so now when half of my routes I show have inferior mapping, blurred, lacking in detail and features since "non-bling" was introduced.
