Change to Bing maps disappointing

Hello,

I'm disappointed in the switch to Bing maps. The "far" view in both map and ariel is much more distorted than the previous version with google maps. It also seems that the terrain view has disappeared. I assume this was done as a cost saving measure, but from a user perspective, it's a loss of functionality.

However, I still love my garmin as a training tool, and has been helpful in my quest for my first full marathon in early december.

  • Dear Garmin-Decision-Makers:

Look how the Berlin City Marathon looks with Bing in Garmin Connect:

and look how it looks way more readable/noticeable and clearer in Google:

So were is the improvement? Were is the advantage with bing?
Please explain who/what drove your decision!

    I'm very disappointed :(
  • I would not be surprised if Microsoft imposed on garmin their exclusivity.

This last "crisis" make me beleive that GC should ask beta-testor
(users very active on this forum to beta test the"new features")

The same thing happened with the inability to delete weight entry in the health TAB:
GC went into recover mode, once they got convinced that people can make typos in date.
Only then, did they realized that the concept "you always weight something" is invalid.
Then the recovery took 4-5 months.

As a Canadian, Bing maps are more or less useless.
Maybe it is time to re-enable paying GC members and add Map selection as a
    option for the paying customer.

PS: If I was a garmin employee, my Boss would need to use threat to force
me to officially comment on the switch to bing map on the forum :)

    Bing is horrible!

What on earth is going on at Garmin??? I freaking HATE bing maps and this is reason enough to start looking for a different website to upload my garmin tracks.

Garmin keeps doing one wrong thing after another. Who the hell is in charge there???

    BRING BACK GOOGLE MAPS!!!!

    Bing Pong !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not been using Garmin for very long only a couple of months.
Very pleased with my Forerunner 310XT........
But to my absolute horror Garmin have switched to BING maps.
    What a downer, Big time!!!
I thought Garmin were a forward thinking company destined for greatness.
Now they make a decision that will throw them back years.
Garmin should act like 'Apple' not Micosloth.
    Period !
    Gutted in the UK :-((
  • Map Change is a step backward!

I agree with the other posters. The new maps make it harder to see your route than the old maps. It is time to tell your map supplier that his maps don't make the grade, or to change back to the previous map supplier.

I certainly hope maps like these don't show up on my Edge 705!

Along those lines, the Garmin routes shown on Universal Sports on each day of the Vuelta a Espana were almost invisible to me. I am one of the 15% or so of Caucasian males who have red - green color blindness, so it was very hard to follow the routes on television.

I thought I was bummed about the switch just because Bing doesn't have some greenways and trails the way Google maps did. But for those of you that are left without maps or lots of missing roads, I feel for you. That really sucks.

Please bring back Google maps. A customer setting would be fine with me too.
