Change to Bing maps disappointing

Former Member
Former Member
Hello,

I'm disappointed in the switch to Bing maps. The "far" view in both map and ariel is much more distorted than the previous version with google maps. It also seems that the terrain view has disappeared. I assume this was done as a cost saving measure, but from a user perspective, it's a loss of functionality.

However, I still love my garmin as a training tool, and has been helpful in my quest for my first full marathon in early december.

Chris
  • More Bing shortcomings

    There have been many comments regarding the poor quality of Bing maps;
    missing roads,
    missing bridges,
    missing lakes,
distance only shown in miles (no kilometre option),
    low-res satellite imagery,
loss of the terrain view option, etc.,

but there are even more missing features that so far have not been mentioned, such as:

    1) No way to automatically re-center the map, as could be done with Google Maps,

    2) No scale to show how far in or out one has zoomed (only the '+' and '-' buttons

With each passing minute, there are new reasons to be saddened by the preposterous decision to replace Google Maps with Bing.

    Shame on you Garmin!

Wow. I was incredibly disappointed tonight to find that Garmin has switched to Bing maps.

I have browsed this forum on many occasions, but this is the first time that I've bothered to register an account and post a comment.

Please consider returning to Google maps. Or at least give users a choice.

    :(

    bad bing-maps

    Hi
The bing-maps are bad and inaccurate, please give me google-maps back!
    Ciao
  • The mapping data is a disgrace - it's so out of date! There is a roundabout at end of my road that has been there for 4 years, it's not even on the bing mapping! (I'm in the UK in built up area so no excuse).

posting a link on facebook to a recent workout is going to be embarassing now with such poor mapping!

Another $ decision and the customer loses out!

For offline usage I'm going to switch to SportTracks

I've emailed garmin support to complain - suggest others do the same.
  • More evidence of Bing inferiority...

Just see the attached photo (one day I'll learn how to embed these).

    Bing is a huge disappointment.

GARMIN - PLEASE GIVE US GOOGLE MAPS BACK!!!!

I suggest everyone go and write a comment on
their blog to let them know your disappointment. They are at least read
because they have to moderate all comments.

They definitely moderate it because they're not putting any of the comments up. Welcome to the Iron Curtain.
  • response back from Garmin Support Europe. Complete standard cut and paste response................. again dissapointing.
