Change to Bing maps disappointing

Former Member
Former Member
Hello,

I'm disappointed in the switch to Bing maps. The "far" view in both map and ariel is much more distorted than the previous version with google maps. It also seems that the terrain view has disappeared. I assume this was done as a cost saving measure, but from a user perspective, it's a loss of functionality.

However, I still love my garmin as a training tool, and has been helpful in my quest for my first full marathon in early december.

Urgh... I only just switched to using Connect a while back to get the better Google maps and things... Time to switch away again... I'm glad I kept all of my runs in other convenient formats to upload somewhere else too.

    Boooo, Garmin!

The transition from Google maps to Bing maps is absolutely terrible!

What were Garmin really thinking doing this?

Here's a comparison for my last activity:

Bing maps (I can't zoom more than this...)
    " />">

Google maps/earth (And I can still continue to zoom in and get even more details)
    " />">

As you all can see, even you Garmin-people, Bing maps is completely and totally useless. It's a failure!

    Get real Garmin, will you?

    Bing Maps are Useless

What a disaster! Garmin have just lost their competitive edge. G-maps were perfect with great definition and accuracy. Bing is simply awful. Lack of definition, terrain and accuracy. Absolutely useless. Many lakes do not show up on Bing. It's like using a road atlas in the forest. A complete waste of space.

I am seriously considering going over to a competitor's product. As much as I like(d) Garmin you have just destroyed your unique value proposition. Amazing that you didn't publicly trial this and ask for feedback before casting this on your customers. It takes a long time to build customer loyalty, but not long to break it.

My hundreds of training records are now useless thanks to Bing!

A very disgruntled and previously loyal Garmin fan

Bing maps are useless in Norway...

Yep, an absolute waste of space. Like using a road map in the forest.

What happens when MS abandons Bing maps?

Like everything else they can't figure out, Microsoft ditches the product abruptly. Clearly, they can't figure maps out and will kill Bing maps in favor of Yahoo Maps sometime.

Please go back to Google and spare us the current and future inconveniences of Bing maps. Changing was a dumb idea.

    Agree with everybody

Just adding my voice. I really don't like Bing maps. They are not as accurate for trails, etc.

    Yep me too!

Adding my voice to the crowd. Not a big fan of the switch. Used the Terrain feature a lot on google maps.

Don't forget to join. You can make a difference.

Customer campaigns have succeeded before through FaceBook, e.g. the soda drink Urge
