Change to Bing maps disappointing

Former Member
Former Member
Hello,

I'm disappointed in the switch to Bing maps. The "far" view in both map and ariel is much more distorted than the previous version with google maps. It also seems that the terrain view has disappeared. I assume this was done as a cost saving measure, but from a user perspective, it's a loss of functionality.

However, I still love my garmin as a training tool, and has been helpful in my quest for my first full marathon in early december.

    Bing is like a virus

Another unhappy customer. bing maps are vastly inferior to google maps. Inaccurate, lack of resolution, slow loading... part of my Sunday run is in the ocean!!! At least google maps showed me running on land.

Please listen to your customers... This is a BIG issue!!!

Bing maps are crap for Australia. I can't zoom in any where near I could with Google maps. Garmin - bad move. Bring back Google maps!!!

    Adding my cry of pain

Also from Australia, and also dissatisfied with the crapness of Bing compared to Google. This appears to be another sign of Garmin only caring about US customers

    Wow . . . seriously :(

This move to Bing maps and dropping google is quite disturbing.

What happened to . . . "if it aint broke, don't fix it"

I imagine someone at Garmin probably received a pay raise for making
a poor decision like this. A sad day for Garmin.

I can't find one reason why going to "Bing" maps would enhance the
    end-user's experience over google maps.

Strike 1 Garmin. . . . . quite possibly a tipping point for future disappointment in so-called "upgrades".

I'll start saving for something bigger and better from a competitor who's learning from your mistakes.
  • Bing Gong!

Just another peon who woke up to a nasty surprise this morning. My morning ride takes in bridges, roads and paths that just don't exist in Bing maps, and the satellite imagery is at least 5 years old.

How about having the mapping engine as a user option? You've already integrated Google and Bing, how hard can it be to make it user selectable? For what it's worth if I had to express a preference I'd go for OpenStreetMap in preference to either, the maps (at least around here) are more detailed and contain more features (paths, contours) than either.

    this is NOT acceptable!!!

How can Garmin do this. Development is suppose to make this better. This is not working at all. My maps are totally distorted. I cant use these maps for anything. Where I run at this time there isnt even any close up sattelite pics.
GIVE US GOOGLE MAPS BACK ASAP!!!!!
  • Please Garmin, listen to your customers: Give us GoogleMaps back! I would love to read the press-note/explanation WHY you switched to bing!?

I'm scared that Garmin is getting another Microsoft branch.
  • Another very unsatisfied user

I am another very unsatisfied user since Bing Maps where introduced. I miss the terrain and earth features, as well as the more detailed and updated Google Maps for my country, Portugal.

Besides, I use Garmin Connect primarly for its simple yet useful features and good-looking interface, which makes it a perfect tool for easy access to my activities, and to share them with others. Bing Maps looks awful in Garmin Connect interface, performs worse and is less detailed when compared with Google Maps.

I vote for having Google Maps again!

So clear that Bing is much worse than GMaps...

... that I can not even understand why Garmin do not allow their users to choose between Google Maps or Bing.

In my town in south of Spain, Bing images or countour lines are not even available. Do I have to download my trainings to Google Earth? Do I have to move to Strands in order to use Google Maps?

I feel a bit dissapointed about that fact because I am a Garmin customer and it is hard to understand why they changed something that it was working fine. I thought updatings were supposed to improve the existing stuffs.

Somebody knows what is the official reason to move to Bing?

I wish Garmin let to choose between Bing and Google Maps.

I'd like to add my total dissatisfaction with Bing. Please Garmin bring back Google maps.
