Garmin nuvi 250 formatted

Hello,

I have a problem with my Garmin nuvi 250. Recently, I left for 10 minutes to eat and I left my stupid brother to play on the computer. My nuvi 250 was connected to my laptop, and he (my brother) performed a format on the device. I'm searching now for like 2 months how to bring it back to the initial state. Have done already a hard reset, master reset whatever you can think about with no success. I really need some help from u guys cuz I don't know what to do ...

P.S.: I don't know if this can help but all the files from the device were copyed in the past by me with copy+paste (if this can be a backup)

Regards,
sTz.
  • First, crazy glue your brother's hands to a spare, non-functional keyboard. You'll be much happier and your files safer :D

I first would try Garmin's Webupdater and see whether it will recognize your unit and allow you to update it. You might be lucky.

Now since you cut and pasted all the files and hopefully the folders too, try just pasting them back to the GPS if Windows Explorer recognizes the GPS as a mass storage unit. It might, just as it does an empty SD card.

My computer doesen't see my gps as a mass storage unit.
  • Perhaps this helps......

First try to download an usb-driver for the garmin nuvi.
Secondly use "recuva" (free to downlaod) to recover deleted files. Works only if you don'have put new information on your garmin.
If he formatted your device (in stead of deleting all files) it will not work, too.

Ok so I discovered today that my device was actually formatted in FAT32. When I connect the GPS to my laptop is says that the driver was successfully installed but it doesen't appear like a mass storage in My Computer.
  • At this point, you may want to contact Garmin's and spend some time in waiting on line.
