Nuvi 3790 Voice Command not available

That's the Nuvi trick

Try to set up the voice in British English, without TTS (can't remember if it has an impact or not), and same for the text (British). I had the same issue... and now it should work. Once done (and working), try to "navigate to a city/town" by spelling it's name :D And let me know what it does when you say a letter :p

I have the same problem. I bought mine in Taiwan and am not Taiwanese. Message reads...Voice command support is not available for american english. I tried to change to british english and got the same message but instead of american I got british not supported. Is there a file I can install or replace to make it work correctly ? Help much appreciated...

I bought the latest Nuvi 3790 (010-00858-36, Arab version) here in Abu Dhabi, I am not Arab hence I need to use other languages like English, Spanish or Italian but none of them are available when I click the voice command buttom, it says "voice command not available for English American" same happen for Spanish and other non Arab languages

How can I download voice command for other languages?

I had my nuvi 3790LMT from Costco shop and all was smooth for three days, until I registered my device at Garmin and proceeded with the software and map updates; right after that the problems started: 1) the voice command for "Find by Name", "Find by Category" and "Find Address" were giving me the errors:
For Find by Name: “Command not available for American English”
For Find by Address: “This feature is not available in the United States”
I also noticed that "Trafic" is no longer showing on my device while traveling.

I wrote to customer service... I returned the device to Costco shop, and I purchased a new device 3790LMT; I avoided connect this second device to my computer and I started using it; after only 10 minutes, it went crazy while I was driving... the device was executing a series of commands by itself and without I touch the screen... I had to hit "back" several times and continuously until I reached my destination.
Here I am on the forum, after I wrote to Garmin support, and waiting to read what the will tell me.

Regarding the first issue (Voice command), I have received the following reply from Garmin support:
To try to fix the voice issue perform a master reset.
To perform a master reset on a nuvi 3700 series device:
Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints and favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings. If you would like to back up your favorites you can find instructions to do so here.
1. Start with the unit turned OFF and unplugged from power
2. Power ON the device
3. When the copyright screen appears press and hold the lower right hand corner of the touchscreen
4. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when a message appears that says Erase all user data?
5. Touch YES
The device will now be reset. Follow the on screen prompts then place the device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

Get rid of it...

My 3790 is always acting up with the voice command. The wake-up phrase works once, twice, but after the third time (after returning to the main menu) the device is totally deaf. Town spelling shows anything but the letter I pronounced, moreover it shows towns that are miles away from my country. I gave up with that function, and I believe I'll soon give up with the whole device (still under warranty). :(

Same thing happened for me for Nuvi 3790 bought from Kuwait
and teh voice command not available for american english pop up ...

I did the following and now its working fine except for
find address and find by name :

1- run webupdate
2- select to update the voice recognition files and other firmwares related to traffic and the other than device firmware ones..

after doing the above the voice command is working for me except for find by name and find address

Thanks Ewissam, lesson learned. I thought that using MyGarmin will update my device the same way as WebUpdater. Big mistake, it will not. :confused: Thanks Garmin for making things easy.

I tried MyGarmin first, and it said "all is up to date". When accessing WebUpdater, it said that some voice files, and EcoRoutes files are TO BE updated. :eek: :mad:

So i did the update, and now, it seems to work better, in terms of word spelled. When spelling a town "IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC", and when I say "J", it shows Jersey first, when "V" i get Vale, "A" I get Alderney... but all these locations are quite a few km from the Czech. :(

So to me, this option (Voice command "find town") still does not work.

nuvi 3790t command not available

I bought my nuvi 3790T in jarir jeddah ksa, as what the other says "voice command support is not available for American English"

I tried to talk to the darmoja office located in Falasteen street, addressing my problem, the darmoja representative says voice command in gcc maps will not work, unless if you have the map for europian countries.

Anybody who uses 3790T here in Saudi Arabia, please post your comment. :mad:
