after years of trouble free service with my Nuvi 260w and 255w, I decided that instead of buying a map update, I'd go ahead and spring for garmin's latest and greatest.. the 3790T
it's been quite a dissapointment since I took it out of the box.
1) every few hours, it stops displaying previously traveled route information, and requires a software reset.
2) when I drive down certain roads, it just crashes and reboots repeatedly until I'm off that road.
3) it can't tell the difference between me being on the limited access hwy, or the feeder road that runs along side it. (look at US-59 on the north side of Houston) while my 260w sitting right next to the 3790t in the windshield has NO problem doing so.
4) the blue tooth capability is very prone to RF interference which makes it next to useless in downtown Houston area.
5) it absolutely REFUSES to route me though left turns at certain intersections (yes, left turns are legal), and instead insists on me turning right, driving about 3 miles down the road, making a u-turn, and coming back, where I could have just turned left in the first place, (all the avoidances are off) I use it as a delivery driver in an area i don't know, so I have to rely somewhat heavily on the gps..and more then once its added several miles that didn't need to be added.
But to be fair, it does have a few features I REALLY like.
Lane assist with junction view is just AWESOME.. I ventured into downtown houston which is insanely busy with traffic, when the gps popped up a picture of the interchange and what lane I needed to be in.. WOW.
the active docking station is a nice touch, it makes taking it out of the car much less of a hassle not having to mess with power cords, and the bigger speaker is nice too.
it's smaller case size makes it nice for carrying, the nuvi260w was kinda large for a pocket and definately awkward to carry in your hand.
battery life is awesome too.. garmin says 4 hours. .haven't tried that out, but the old 260w was only good for 20-45 minutes depending.
I sincerely hope garmin can correct the navigation issues soon with a firmware update. (I updated it the day I got it a month or so ago, haven't checked lately for more updates)
