The file you are planning to use, is it in gpx format?

Can you zip it down and attach it to your next post?

Or post the link you are using to download it and after I get the file I will find out exactly what you need to do to get it into your 705.

    705

hi don thr web site is wheels in wheels tour of worcester uk 92 mile route at the bottom of the page it gives you the option to download a gpx file

    thanks in advance
  • So you are asking where are they downloaded to on your PC right ? Had a look at the wheels in wheels site and using my browser (Chrome) it doesn't actually download it at all, it just opens a new window and shows you the contents of the gpx file. Got the same using IE. Is it doing that for you ? If so the site is not working properly.

I'm a 405 user but these instructions should work for you.

Click the gpx link on the 92 mile page on the wheels in wheels site. This should open a new page with the route contents showing.
Select the contents of the page by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and pressing shift then click the mouse. Right click and select copy.
Open Notepad and select paste from the edit menu.
You now have the route in notepad, the last line should end with /gpx>
Now save the file - say call it worc.txt.
use explorer to rename it worc.gpx
you now have a functional gpx file. You might be OK to do it yourself from this point. If not below uses garnin training centre to get it to your device :-
run GTC and select import, activity.
select worc.gpx and it should be imported as an activity and you should be able to see it in the map panel.
Right click on the activity and select convert to course.
It should appear as NewCourse in the courses tab
now click on the send to device icon and it will be sent to your device.

Hope the above is understandable and it helps.

Ya, that is not the best way to set up a download but maybe that is all they could do with the website.

After clicking on the download link the file contents are displayed in XML. Click Edit > Select All > File > Save As > change the name, I used 92mile.gpx and then Browse to your Garmin Drive > Garmin Folder > GPX Folder and paste.

I like gpx routes because if you do not navigate they still show on your map as a small series of dots that you can follow by just looking at your cursor as it moves along. I do not use Courses.

To activate the route in your 705 hit > Menu > Where To? > Saved Rides > 92mile > Navigate or just Map Setup.

Use the Mode key to switch between all the options when Navigating.

To delete old gpx routes I connect the 705 to my PC and delete them using my computer.

I have attached the 92mile.gpx file I made just for grins.
  • Yep, I should have attached the gpx once I'd been through the process of creating it. Never occurred to me for some reason.
