Just bought an almost new Garmin Nuvi 1200 on Ebay UK and it has maps for the USA and Mexico. Can I remove the USA maps and fit the latest European ones, please ? I would hate to pay £75 for the latest European maps from Garmin and then find out they do not work. Appreciate any help on this matter, Dan in Scotland.
In theory yes, but I have a new 3790T which I am trying to load N American maps into for a holiday.
The nuvi will not read them, despite them being in the map folder, it cannot "unlock them" despite being "unlocked" when I connect the nuvi to mygarmin dashboard and mymaps.
Support are "investigating"
again what looks live good hardware is being let down by poor software and support.
Do garmin do any alpha let alone beta testing?
I have in the past purchased several garmin devices and all have has similar software problems.
Can I change the US maps on a Nuvi 1200 to European ones
Thanks Steve for your reply. In another forum someone with a 200 series Garmin Nuvi got around the problem by renaming the update file name from GMAPPROM.IMG to GMAPSUPP.IMG He could then access all of the European maps BUT he had to leave the update card in his GPS.
Do you think this would work with the Nuvi 1200 ? It seems such a good idea, especially if your GPS memory is full.
Hi Steve, found out that if I add a folder called map into the Garmin Nuvi directory that I can add maps into this directory and the Nuvi 1200 recognises them.
Just did it with an old UK and ROI image and the memory in the Nuvi 1200 is now almost full but I can use the Nuvi, in the UK.
I also found out that I cannot load the whole of Europe, or even Western Europe into the Nuvi 1200, because even if I delete the USA maps there is just not enough room. Unless I can break the Europe map into pieces, one in the main memory and one in a Micro SD card that I can leave plugged into the GPS. Maybe Garmin will start to sell smaller images that will enable me to do that.
with the 3790T the extra supplementary maps are added by default into a directory called maps on the nuvi which it still thinks are locked.
If I connect a "used on my phone" sd card I need to create a folder called Garmin on this. This is there where the mac mapInstall programme "installs" the selected maps to.
In both cases the map files are present but are still are read as "locked"
Is this the case with the 1200
Support are aware of the problem but after the first couple of "suggestions" I have heard no more.
Has anyone managed to add any supplemental maps onto a 3790T?
