free map update help...

i just bought a nuvi 1350t, and when i registered it, it said i had a free map update, but when i click the link..nothing seems to happen?
So, how do i update maps in this thing, i thought it was as simple as clicking the update and the new maps would have been downloaded directly to the device. And yes it was connected to the computer via a usb cable.

    garmin sucks

    well, i'm returning this piece of garbage, the manual is useless, the download site is useless, and if i can't get the updated maps to download, then the gps is useless.

  • Go to myGarmin, register the Nuvi 3790T then go to myMaps, here was a link to download the update ( several GB). This is where purchased add on appear for your device too. Connect the USB lead and select your device.

    The garmin server is very slow. It took me 4 attempts to download.

    I got a server error stating to contact support ( lol they were not a lit of help saying that it must be my cable connection... etc... etc. PS they do not even read your first email, just send a standard reply)

    There is no indication of how much has been downloaded , nor the ability to pickup after an aborted download. Eventually I did get the download to "stick". I'm not sure whether a 3rd party download manager would help.

    I also had problems downloading the software upgrade to 2.5 that also took several attempts to stay in the nuvi. The instructions appear wrong the device does not auto power on then off, you need to pull the usb lead and ignore the filer error then manually re-start.

    Usual garmin problems, nice technology and hardware let down by poor software and support.
    Will garmin ever learn? my patience is wearing thin.

    Server Denied Access

    After happily unpacking my new nuvi 3790t I went right to the register site and registered it. I then told me I had a free Software update, which I did and; a free map update which made me very disappointed. Seems they tell me a get a free map update and then when I try to download it, the site tells me I don't have access to that server. Since I have the lifetime maps for my nuvi 650 I tried again using that device. Same thing I don't have access, what is going on, does anyone know. I sent email to support but as you know it takes a while to get and answer by email and the support line says there are long waiting times. So I am asking here if there is a problem that I have to send my New 3790t back or is Garmin having server problems? Thank you for any help you can provide, it is greatly appreciated...

    I have several support emails awaiting a reply each for a different problem with the Nuvi 3790T. ( extra map up loads from DVD, non reception of traffic reports in London, firmware update problems, map download problems...)

    I did eventually get the V2.5 firmware update to stick on the third attempt, (try pulling the usb out rather than dismounting it.) It also does not auto start as the instructions state
    The map updates eventually came in 9 (very slowly) after about the fifth attempt.

    I also found that the support phone line in the UK had long waits, but later in the day 17:00 I got straight through.
    The first support person took my problem details then dropped the line on me.

    The second was very helpful, after going through my problem again, he emailed me a file to drop into my nuvi, however without success, said he'd investigate further and get back to me.
