Waypoint Issues on GPSmap 62st

Former Member

Probably thread already on this issue - but I can't seem to figure out two things.

1.) How do I delete an individual waypoint on the GPSmap 62st - The only option I can find in the gps is to delete all the waypoints. This seems like a big issue as I sometimes create bad waypoints or want to delete a single geocache.

2.) How can I hide my geocache waypoints and still see my other waypoints? I would like my "recreational" profile to include only my standard waypoints without all the clutter of my geocaches. I would like to see the geocaches in my "geocache" profile however.

Thanks

    Hi,

RE: the delete of one waypoint - my 62S has the same issue.
I can ""delete all"" via the menu system but not one individual waypoint.
My first email to Garmin support yielded a suggestion of a master reset.
This did not work this evening.
So now i'm waiting for the follow up advice.

Does anyone have any solutions or workarounds? I can't believe there are only two of us with this issue. Or can someone confirm that these things are impossible?

Well that is one problem down - sorry for my stupidity - should have tried entering into the waypoint itself (I was trying to delete it from the list of waypoints). Anyone have any suggestions on how to hide geocaches yet still see my other waypoints? (sorry for all the questions - I am converting from a Magellan Explorist 600 to Garmin)

It shows how to delete a waypoint on page 5 of the manual. That is the exact way my 60CSx works as well.

When i read that page 5
    ...
    it says select a waypoint
    and press menu
well to me select means move the active cursor on it
not actually hit enter - and then be IN the waypoints attribute page
that could have been written a lil clearer.
Some of us come from OOP backgrounds and you don't delete an object when you are in it.

Did you try the Geocache settings on page 34? Also, you can create a profiles with and without what you want and change them easily. Look at this page.

Scroll down to: Customizing the Garmin GPSMAP 62s

Thanks TSAWCHUC but that is not quite what I was looking for. I know that you can set different profiles but I want a geocaching profile which has ALL my waypoints and a recreational profile that has only my "normal" waypoints and NOT my geocaching waypoints. I can't seem to find a way to disable ONLY the geocaching waypoints -when I disable waypoints it removes the "normal" waypoints and the geocaches.

To delete waypoints from the device please follows the steps below.

    1. Power the device on and hit the menu button twice to reach the main menu.
    2. Scroll down and hit enter on “Waypoint Mgr.”
    3. Select the waypoint you wish to delete and hit enter on it.

From this point you can hit the menu button once and get a list of options you can do with the device. The top option will be to delete the waypoint. This will not delete all the waypoints only the one you have selected.

As for the Geocaches I will look into this more with my device.

After looking into this more with my units it doesn't appear that you can hide Geocaches from the screen and keep the waypoints showing. The devices label Geocahces and Waypoints as the same thing. Hiding one will hide the other.

This is a neat idea and I hope Garmin reads this thread and takes this into consideration.

    Deleting Geocaches

I appreciate the information upthread about deleting waypoints, I had the same problem. The problem now is that I have way more geocaches than waypoints, and still can't figure out how to get rid of most of them. Once I've visited an area I'm not likely to go back to, I don't need to waste space with all the found and unfound caches stored on the GPS. Has anyone figured out how to get rid of individual geocaches without deleting all the waypoints as well?
  • recording time with waypoint

I've had an Oregon 400t, for a year or so. Whenever I record a waypoint with it, a timestamp is added to it.

I just got a 62st about a month ago and have used it several times. When I record a waypoint, the time of day is not recorded with the lat-long. I've been through all the menus and the instruction book, and I can't figure out how to do this. Am I missing something? This is important to me since I often sort my waypoints by time and date.

Has anybody worked out how to delete geocaches from a 62st?

    I have noticed the following

    1) The Waypoint manager does not list geocaches - only waypoints.

The waypoint manager allows you to delete a single waypoint or all waypoints.

    2) If you delete all waypoints then go to the geocache page - all geocaches are still listed. If you switch the unit off then back on again - the geocaches are now gone.
