nuvi 1490T Bluetooth phone issue

I have been using a 1490T for a couple of months with perfect function until I tried using the Bluetooth connection with my Samsung SGH-T819 phone. No problem linking up, both the nuvi and phone indicate they are connected. The first time I called it for a function test, the "accept/ignore" box appeared, I accepted, and the call came through fine. But it has failed consistently every time since. Most of the time the "phone" icon does not even appear on the main screen, so I can't make a call, and when a call comes in, the "accept/ignore" box does not appear. Then if I try to answer the phone directly, sometimes it works, sometimes I get no audio and can't answer the call.

I have the latest software update on the nuvi, from a couple of days ago, but the problems are the same before and after the update installation. Every other feature on my nuvi works fine; I am content to not have the Bluetooth running.

I am not asking for research assistance, but if you happen to have had (and somehow fixed) this issue, I would love to read your report. Thanks.

I think I have a work around for this problem. While the GPS is booting i.e. just after pressing the "on/off" button and the Garmin name is displayed, press and hold the "on/off" button until the screen goes "blank". Now press the “on/off” switch again and once the unit has booted, the Bluetooth should work.
I don’t know about the architecture of the operating system but think this may cause it to boot from fresh when next turned on and reloading the Bluetooth drivers.
    Your mileage may vary!

    Bluetooth issue

I just purchased mine yesteday at Costco.

The issue(s) i am having are:
    1. It does not autmatically connect to my blackberry
    2. After ia manuall connect there is another issue
    3. After making a call the navigation voice is gone
    4. To make it come back I used the phone features for "voice Dial", then the garmin woke up and said "say a command", i canceleld and the voice directions cam back on....

    Amazed

    Hi All,
Have been having this bluetooth non connect issue ever since the free map update, about 3 weeks ago. You could get the unit to connect to the phone, then if the unit was turned off, and back on, there would be no bluetooth information, Bluetooth firmware version listed as "unknown". Rebooting the GPS again would allow it to again pair with the bluetooth phone. But on restart, again, all settings would be lost.
Have been away for a week and left the GPS sitting on my desk.
Now that I am back, it has not missed one single beat and connects perfectly each and every time (Not game to download new maps in case it breaks again).
So it appears Garmin are the first to engineer the "self healing" firmware for their GPS units.

    Another Issue with 1490T Bluetooth

The Bluetooth gets connected but not always I get my "Iphone" Contacts...quite funny since it comes in sometimes and then I can see my Iphone Contacts.... this Icon if it comes it comes in after you click on the Phone Icone just below the "Where To " .... does anybody know whether this is the same issue with 1390T as well ...in fact with all Bluetooth enabled Garmin GPS ? I have seen the "Phone Contacts" very seldom till now...planning to return this unit tomorrow.

    Crap GPS

Im so angry! Bought it on 25 Sept 2010.. 2 weeks ago did an upgrade of software or something and since then its been useless!!

No voice or sound..I play with the mute /unmute and volumes up and down ..turn it off and still nothing!

Not just that- Bluetooth wont connect anymore.. And if i do luckily get it to, it definatley wont be still connected next time I start the GPS.

Finally, my SUNA traffic doesn't work either! Plugged into car and its pathetic.

    Did the hard restart- NOTHING

Called Australia Garmin- Was on hold for half an hour, hanged up..
    Will email them now..

But am very very pissed off. I believe it must be the latest update thats messing everything up..

Does anyone know how to fix it???????????? Desperate as I use it everyday for work and last 2 weeks been using hubbys!!

Try the following thread about BT issues with 1490T

Seems like the 1490T BT problems are quite common (and old news). Had similar issues of losing BT pairing after a firmware upgrade.

Worth to check the following thread

    1490T Bluetooth problems

I'm having the same problems. My first 1490T wouldn't hold the connection after about two months of perfect operation. Costco replaced it no questions asked but the new one has issues also. It works OK but won't load the phone book from my phone.
