New "feature"? Speed turns RED over speed limit? nuvi765

I just updated the software on my nuvi 765w last night. Currently shows the following software status
GPS: 2.90
DSP: 2.40
Text: 4.00
Voice: 2.00

I noticed this morning that I have a new "feature". Whenever I exceed the speed limit, the speed indicator on the main map screen turns RED.
i.e. 55mph limit, I'll see 56 if I'm going 1 over. I can understand if I'm greatly exceeding the limit and it flags me, or if I could set the point at which there's an alert. But this is downright annoying.

How do I turn this thing off or revert back to an older software without this "feature".

Thanks!
Dave
  • Really? It bothers you that much? I hardly notice it on mine, maybe you should spend more time looking at the road?

Incidentally there is no 'legal tolerance' for speeding in the UK :)
  • I would not keep a GPS that is showing the speed limit red and flashing. You are not my guardian. Also if you are going to reprimand me for my speed then you should be 100% accurate what the speed limit is on all streets and highways. I have found that many of the speeds shown are actually higher than the posted speed. Many city/state & local streets speed limits are changed as the local government desires to change them.

My 1490T shows speed in red when "over the limit" but doesn't flash. I just ignore it.
  • I am in Rockport TX.
The speed limit on Hwy 35bus is 60mph. The GPS shows 55mph.
The speed limit on Hwy 35 is 75.. GPS shows 70.

I have found that most of the speeds on the GPS is pretty close, but there are a lot that are incorrect, both to low and to high. It has become a game for me when I am traveling I check the posted speed limit and the one on the GPS. It is great when it is accurate. I do like the feature, but I don't want it to tell me I am over the speed limit it is programed with. If I am speeding it is the job of our law enforcement to inform me I am speeding.

It is all to do with the locale you set when you first switch on your device. You can indeed enable or disable the alert sound. Here is the Garmin site link. support.garmin.com/.../case.faces
