A little help for the noob??

Hey! So I'm sure that these questions have already been answered somewhere, but after searching for over 2 hours I've decided to just start asking questions. My fiance just bought me a FR305 which I have wanted for quite a long time. I read the manual cover to cover and then again. But it doesn't answer my questions and the software didn't answer them either.

I am a huge fan of designing my workouts on my computer. I have schedules on my laptops calendar and complete with times and splits for training. I nderstand from the manual that I should be able to duplicate these training workouts on the Garmin Training Center (or on Garmin Connect) and the transfer to the unit. In fact the manual reccommends it. I just don't know how and the manual doesn't tell you how to do this on the computer-just on the unit. This is my first fitness trainer (hopefully my last) and I know that it does all of these things (I used to sell them retail, but never having a chance to play with it or read the manual) but I only know the very basic functions and would like to dive into this!!

p.s. I have some races coming up that I would like to use this for.
  • The manual doesn't tell you much. However, within Garmin Training Center is a decent help system which should be able to shed some light on creating your workouts. Go to the help menu and do a search on workout. The first item should be "Creating a New Workout."

So, if I understand correctly: I must first go out and run the courses and do the workouts and then I can schedule them and make courses out of them on the Training Center. Is that correct??
  • That's one way, but not what I was suggesting. In Garmin Training Center you have the ability create workouts from scratch, without having run them first. You can create all sorts of combinations of speed, intervals, distance, heart rate zone, etc. In Traininng Center there are some default workouts already installed. You can use those and alter them, or you can start from scratch. You can also drag the workout onto the calendar to schedule it.
