GPSMAP 62S Altimeter hangs

Hi,

I have a GPSMAP62S.
I updated the firmware to Ver2.44 using the Garmin Webupdater.
Unit works fine but the altimeter on the unit always give a elevation of 20.000 meters.

I have manualy calibrate the barometric altimeter with the correct elevation but after a few seconds the altimeter gives an elevation of 20.000 meters.
Also after a factory reset the elevation stays at 20.000 meters.

Anybody any ideas?

Thank you!

20K altitude, well that would be suitable for a space cadet :)

I think that there might be something wrong with your barometer unit. Check this: Main menu-setup-Altimeter-Barometer mode-switch to fixed elevation. Now go to the satellite screen and check out the altitude. If no change go back to where I just sent you before and check the auto calibration to off. See if there is any change.

None of this will fix your problem (although it may be a workaround, but GPS altitude is not as good as barometric altitude, when the barometer has recently been calibrated), you'll just get a better indicator as to what is at fault. I believe the unit ought to be returned to Garmin or the vendor for repair/exchange.
