My 176c won't turn on after some time in the sun on the boat. It shut down by itself. turn on two more times and lock up, then it was all over for it. Garmin just told me the can't fix it. Not two happy about there responce. They just wanted to try to sell me a cable and told me if I can get it to turn on the up grade softe ware, witch was done a year ago. I have alot of money in this thing with maps and all the options. I use it a lot on the boat, the whole 5 times a year I use it. It has been it he sun before on the boat and has not bothered it. I'm just a little upset right now that it quit with the way Garmin responed.

I've had other deck-mounted LCD units that lost all screen contrast (all black) when they got too hot. I found that a baseball cap perched over the unit kept the direct sun off the sensitive screen.

    Just a thought.

The diagnostic screen gives the temperature of the unit. It might be helpful if Garmin published the maximum operating temperature.

that's not it. I think something happen to the unit itself. My screen is good also. So if I should find one with a bad screen, I chould get this going again. Garmin won't do a thing to help me out here. I have a refurb 378 coming in the mail. I'll get my charts unlocked for that unit. When that one burns up. I'm done with the charts. Not real happy with gramin. Gramin is not as Great and I thought they were. I really should have went with another name and started over with the way I have be treated with the dozen emails and phone calls. The people were nice, but there hands were tied.
