Is there a way to bring up a map of a lake (I have the inland lakes map installed) when you aren't at that lake?

Basically I want to navigate to a lake and see detailed information such as depths, buoys, etc without being at the lake. Is it possible?

I am going to the lake this weekend (I just bought this GPS last week).

I have spent over an hour going through all the menus and navigated to the lake on the map in Marine mode and it isn't giving me any detail.

Suggestions? Assistance?

HomePort Program - for viewing, editing & upload/dload

That trip is past, hope it was good. With your inland waters map you likely received a program on the sd card or CD called HomePort by Garmin. I'm new at this also, but have looked this over and tried it; you can see the map on the machine as well as on your computer, do updates from one to the other transfering POI's, planning routes, creating waypoints etc.. The learning curve is a little steep if you are as 'green' as I am and the path not clear; but once you see this one much of the confusion will disappear.

PS: If you don't have HomePort you can d/load the free Garmin Program 'BaseCamp' from the site and do almost the same thing.. I'm not expert enough to know the difference yet and have both installed. What a relief!
