3790T Problems Updating Software

Former Member

Hi

When I connect the 3790T to the computer Dashboard or WebUpdater let me know that there are software updates available.

When I run the software update it tells me that it was successful.

When I go back into Dashboard or WebUpdater I get the same message that there are software updates available. Round and Round I go.

Can anyone help please ?

There is no .system\JCV folder and in another thread on a different forum, they indicated the JCV data was in the Garmin folder which is why I posted the above, but either way, I don't see it. I also do not see any of the Map data anywhere. I have the .30 version of the North American Map on the SD card and the Garmin is seeing both Maps, the .20 that was installed on the device and the .30 that is on the SD card so the map data is somewhere.

If you see only \Garmin folder I guess you are on SD card.
If you see more folders you are in nuvi memory.

Try to find your JCV file in nuvi memory: .System\JCV

"Do you see what I see ?"

I'm still talking about nuvi memory.

    Beetle,

First Thanks! I do know the difference between the SD memory and the Nuvi memory, and I am looking at the Nuvi memory. I see most all those folders you listed EXCEPT I don't see a .system one. Really, I'm not a novice on computers or with the Garmin. I am just not seeing that system (or .system) folder. Obviously the files are there because without the SD card, I still have a map and a JCV because I was just using it and saw the effects of both without an SD card in place.

I also don't have a "MAP" folder at least not in the root. I have a MAP folder under the Themes folder!!

Got it.. Needed to also turn off blocking Operating System files in the folder view options as well. Didn't expect to have to unlock that as well.

I am showing a file name of D2339020A.JCV with a date of 08/07/2010. Is that the most current? If so, it's been a while...

    Thanks again Beetle..

BTW. No sens to quote posts above yours.

Yes, to see all nuvi 37xx (and nuvi 1xxx) files you have to change two settings in Windows Explorer options.
I dont know more details about CN North America but I can show you some information about actual CNE files:

    Hello

After several tries, I finally have success! I am using a MacBook Pro and found that, when prompted to eject and restart, that I had to just pull the USB cord out and restart manually.

Thank you all for you advice throughout this thread.

    I think it's fair to say that updating the Nuvi 3790T is anything but intuitive - particularly when the directions don't match what you need to do, or even explain the process well. In short I had to;
    1. use the web updater to get the updates.
    2. When it says to eject the device, just pull out the USB cable
    3. Manually restart the device by holding down the on button for 4-5 seconds
    4. Repeat the process until the dashboard says you're up to date (I suspect that when there are more than one update, it does one, and then just tells you you're not done yet, by saying you're not up to date.

I had to repeat the process 5 times.

I also noticed that the pop-up from when you click "update" doesn't work properly until you press it again.

    Solution!!!

I had the problem of not being able to get the firmware installed on my 3790T. Using the WebUpdater would not work, but using the Map Update did. The trick is to unplug the unit USB connection after the WebUpdater has installed the software, but WITHOUT ejecting it. This isn't possible with the WebUpdater because the GPS is automatically ejected. Is certainly a pain to find out how to do it. Garmin should put solution on their site!!
