3790T Problems Updating Software

Former Member

Hi

When I connect the 3790T to the computer Dashboard or WebUpdater let me know that there are software updates available.

When I run the software update it tells me that it was successful.

When I go back into Dashboard or WebUpdater I get the same message that there are software updates available. Round and Round I go.

Can anyone help please ?

My new 3790T is doing the exact same thing through multiple attempts to update the software - no apparent effect.

Have you tried it through both the mygarmin.com website as well as their WebUpdater software? I've found that those who weren't successful with the website approach succeeded using the WebUpdater software instead.

Be glad your update is not working. I did update to 2.50 and have some issues that Garmin says they are aware of.
Some voice commands now do not work with 2.50. Most obvious is is the voice command "Find By Name". You now get an error message saying that this feature is not available for American english.
Called Garmin and they are aware and will have an update in 1 or 2 weeks.

As a 1st time buyer of a Garmin product, a brand new and rather expensive 3790T, I'm very disappointed that such an obvious defect could go to production undetected. This is not very reassuring regarding Garmin's quality control.

Can't update pass 2.30 or the maps of the unit; talk about a shoddy out of the box experience. :(

    Issue continues

Just now (am Sept. 11) updated to the latest software version. The voice command issues continue.

software upgrade, here's what worked for me

I did a safe eject and then just let it sit to see if it would reboot like the directions said it would. It did not as many of you said. I did not try to turn it on. I plugged it back in to the PC and it booted up and I saw it said software loading at the top. Then it rebooted. Once it rebooted, my dashboard page refreshed and it said my software is up to date.

so for me, this worked. I hope this helps someone else.

I don't know how this company could put such lame directions up
  • I have a new 3790T, several attempts to upgrade to 2.5, seems to work if you just pull the USB out on a mark rather than safely remove.
5 abortive attempts to upgrade european maps, but did in the end after several hours (don't try this if your paying a per Mb data rate!)

I however have not managed to get any downloaded supplemental maps (N america) which appear in the maps folder on the nuvi to work unlocked. Despite showing as unlocked in mydashboard and on in basecamp/roadtrip. (support were also no help)

I need them next week. Has ANY one managed to add extra maps to their NUVI 3790T?

(PS has any one also managed to get satisfactory FM traffic reports in the UK, I have more "poor reception" than not.?)

Works fine for me. Loaded up two maps for China, Hong Kong and India into my 2GB memory card in addition to the Australian basemap loaded in the unit's built-in memory. What I had to do though was to combine all three maps together with some additional software to create a single GMAPSUPP.IMG file to then load into the memory card's \Garmin directory. This way, you can load several maps altogether all in one easy file that will be recognised by the Garmin unit no problem.

If you're not using a memory card, you can save the GMAPSUPP.IMG file in the unit's built-in memory (same directory as you would for the memory card) which will work just fine as well.

    Best of luck with it.
  • was this on a mac? ( macbookpro OS 10.6.4)

On a cleanly formatted sd card I get 2 files transferred into a Garmin folder:
gmapsupp.img and a .gma file using the mac version of mapinstall.

Support emailed me a .unl (unlock file) which should have been in the folder but was not inserted by the mapinstall application

But the files still appear locked on my device but not in base camp nor in mygarmin my dashboard.

Nuvi 3790t does not keep Bluetooth phone directory/contacts

The Nuvi 3790t does not keep Bluetooth phone contacts if you have used them already once. When swithching off and restarting the Nuvi and couple again to a bluetooth phone, there are no more contacts in the phone directory the second time.
I found out that you have to reset the Nuvi by pushing and holding the on/off button for at least 5 seconds or so till it reboots. When coupling again to a bluetooth phone the contacts are back.
However this procedure is a waiste of time.
I have sent a mail about this bug to the Garmin contact desk.
