3790T Problems Updating Software

Former Member
Former Member
Hi

When I connect the 3790T to the computer Dashboard or WebUpdater let me know that there are software updates available.

When I run the software update it tells me that it was successful.

When I go back into Dashboard or WebUpdater I get the same message that there are software updates available. Round and Round I go.

Can anyone help please ?

Same issues here. Very frustrating. Trying to get newer maps to the device and it just goes around and around on the update.

How many times have you gone through with the update and restart procedure?

I just bought mine today, went through it twice (hitting the power button myself to restart the unit after unplugging it from the USB) and it's all good now, according to MyDashboard.

One thing I did notice was that the battery wasn't fully charged in my case and perhaps the unit has a little failsafe to prevent crashing the unit completely from a loss of power during the restart of the unit? Just a theory given that I only had it charging on a USB charger for only 20 minutes or so and noticed the battery was on about 33% capacity.

Anyway, point being, persistence will get you there.

Well, I HOPE it's the low battery issue because this unit has just come from Amazon and I have tried 3 times to do the update and it keeps failing. I will fully charge it, try again and if it doesn't work it's back in the box for a refund!!!

Can't say I'm too impressed, especially not for this money!!!

The instructions that come up on the Garmin update software don't match what happens either! I use a Mac and after sending the update to the device it tells you to eject it, SWITCH IT OFF, then power back on and wait for the update to finish. When I eject the device is already powered off.

I won't be waiting to see if the rest of the owning process is so poor if the update doesn't work that's for sure. Premium devices at premium prices need premium performance and ACCURATE instructions that reflect what will happen. Not impressed at all!!!

Seriously people, STOP overreacting! Ok, so a few instructions need some improvement. That doesn't mean the product is by any means inferior nor the manufacturer support. GROW UP!

Like I said before, it took me two shots before it finally acknowledged. There could be a number of reasons for this and the battery thing is just one theory I have but not really proven either.

It didn't need to be switched off because you unplugged it from your Mac, as was the case with my Windows-based PC. So, all I did was switch it back on and repeated the process.

If after three attempts this isn't working for you, why not try calling Garmin before flying off the handle screaming refund? The unit is working an absolute treat for me and I'm impressed with its performance given this is my first ever GPS unit. Yes, I too paid the premium price and from what I can see, I have received a premium product. The instruction manuals still need work but I'm happy to persevere and enjoy what is a great GPS for both my vehicle and on foot thanks to its size.

Mate, you lot seriously need to calm down and think rationally.

I think you're the one that needs to take a chill pill! People are entitled to their opinions whether you agree with them or not. Perhaps you need to take your own advice and grow up!

A refund is an entitlement under UK law, whether you wish to avail yourself of it or not. Free country, freedom of choice. What YOU chose to do is a matter for yourself.

    Message to Therealmax

That's quite an offensive way to speak to unhappy owners of this expensive product. I had the same problems with my new 3760T and rang Garmin Tech Support. They said it must be a faulty unit. They said I could return it to them and it may take 10 days to replace or I could return it to Amazon, who replaced within 1 day. (well done Amazon). I have just spent over 3 hours trying to update the software and maps, again without success. So don't tell us to "calm down", this is a poor piece of untested software and procedure and it is NOT ACCEPTABLE. End of!

Yes I'm well aware of your entitlements as much as we are here in Australia as well but that doesn't mean you can't be reasonable and give everyone the second chance that everyone deserves. By all means, if you choose to go that path, that's your prerogative but that doesn't mean you have been a reasonable consumer either. The street goes both ways and as per UK law, despite your entitlements, as a consumer you have your responsibilities as much as the merchant and manufacturer do.

    But then again, that's a grown-up's logic. :D

It's not offensive when someone hasn't at least given it a chance. You, on the other hand, have given it a chance. You gave Garmin the opportunity to correct the matter, you even had it replaced by the retailer. All those are steps taken by whom I consider to be reasonable. In which case, don't expect my response to EMPGAMER to apply to you as well. EMPGAMER just takes his out of his box and with one problem, he goes flying off the handle without at least taking the steps you have. That's the difference between being rational and irrational.

As for me, after going through the process twice, I have an up to date two day old 3790T and I'm impressed with it. Maybe we Aussies are a little more lucky with our units given I haven't seen any negative feedback in local forums yet.

Your opinion of either me or other posters here is in all honesty of zero interest to me. I don't give a hoot what your definition of reasonable is and with an expensive product like this will opt for the approach that suits ME! That you resort to insulting people by suggesting they need to grow up just because YOU have decided that their actions don't accord with your view of life indicates the type of childish mentality that you accuse others of and that frankly I can't be bothered with.

You made comments which were totally uncalled for and when picked up about it resort to defending yourself with yet further childish comments. You also seem to interpret the posts of other in a way that suits defending your pompous approach to them. You have no idea of the steps I have taken to deal with this and I do not have the time, and certainly not the inclination, to explain them to individuals like you.

Post away with your little rants as much as you like. I won't be returning to the thread to view them mind as you are not worth the effort or wasted time. Your time may be better invested taking your own advice though

I guess I'll just go back to enjoying my up-to-date and functioning 3790T and keep my advice to myself then.
