I was using my 705 to record the history of a ride today. When I checked it I discovered the unit had switched itself off. On further investigation I found it had lost all the details of the ride as well as the set up information, it seems to have gone back to the factory set up. It looks like it suffered a complete power shut down. Has anyone else experienced this? I would be grateful for any information. The unit is about two months old.
Yesterday I loaded a course and a gpx file into my 705. I unplugged and turned on the unit and it appeared to freeze while the little loading bar was advancing. I left it sit for 10 min while I did something else. I came back and it was off. Turned it back on and it loaded up like it was brand new. Files gone, profile gone, settings gone, ughhh!
So I did the Web Updater thing and reloaded v3.2 and let the 705 do its thing and everything seems to be working again. I did not lose any new data because I was just playing with old files but had I been riding I'm sure I would have lost everything just like you did MAUHEN.
I have had this unit since Oct'09 and not had any problems. A spontaneous shutdown and losing everything does not inspire my confidence
Thanks Don for your feedback on this problem. Having reset my preferences the unit now is working fine with no problems. I will check which version of the software is loaded and update if necessary. I agree the shut down is scary. One point to note, I had the unit in my pocket rather than on the handlebars when the problem occurred. Even so I am surprised at the total shut down.
