Can I control which of perpendicular street names I see?

Hi,

Here are my specs:

Garmin: Nuvi 255W
Firmware Ver: 6.60
GPS SW Ver: 4.10b
Map: CT North America NT 2011.10

I have a strange question: When I drive, is there a way to see all the street names that are coming in front of me? Sometimes, only the name of the major streets come up, sometimes nothing.

It seems to depend on the zoom. Sometimes, if you are too zoomed in, you do not see any names, same if you are too zoomed out.

Also, it also might depend on if you are actively using the GPS to follow the itinerary or if you are just displaying the map to look at it.

Am I smoking? Is anybody here can shed some light on this. Who controls if it has to display the street name or not? Is that feature fully automatic?
