1490T Free mandatory Garmin GPS software update creates major problem.

I got an email from Garmin stating "Free mandatory Garmin GPS software update" so I updated my GPS. I use my GPS as a VITAL component to work and I have to categorize all my favorites into different categories. Now all my favorites have been moved and if I move one, all under that category moves with it. Also when I look at it on the map the address does not show, or just parts. One additional thing I did after the update and before I noticed this problem is connect my cell phone bluetooth to the GPS, but I disabled it and nothing changed. PLEASE HELP!!! This is vial to my work!

I have had the same problem. Eventually I deleted all my favourites, recreated the favourites, recategorised them and now the categories seem to be behaving properly again.

I though it might have been something I had done wrong, but am happy to see that the same has happened to someone else.

I just got off the phone w/ "support" (I use the term loosely) about this same problem with my 1490T. Garmin is aware of the problem, many people have had it, and they are (supposedly) working on a fix. I wouldn't hold my breath, but we will get another software update email when (if!) it's available. Otherwise all you can do is delete and recreate all the favorites. btw, I have found threads on other web sites going back to 2007 about software updates wrecking Favorites on a number of Garmin models, so this kind of thing has been going on a long time.

What I also found out is that it's pretty easy to copy your favorites (it's a file named current.gpx) to your PC before the software update, and then copy them back to the Garmin afterwards if there is a problem. Oh, if I'd only known that before! Why don't they tell us these things! Maybe I should have bought the Magellan....
