1490t Traffic Issue

My fairly new 1490t frequently loses the traffic signal or when starting up, does not receive the traffic signal. Pulling the power cord seems to get it going for a while and then the signal stops again and the icon goes grey. I am in traffic coverage areas (Albany, NY & Now LA area). I already reset the memory buffer in the settings and it worked for one trip here in LA and now the traffic is once again not loading into the unit. I guess I will have to send it back to Garmin when I return home but curious if others are also experiencing this issue.

    No Traffic on 1450T

I cant even get the traffic icon to come on.
My traffic is dead - and I cant even get it to
come with road speed limits - though my old
Nuvi had it on the same roads.... very frustrated..
almost went out the window yesterday.

Yes. Mine 3 month old 1490T does the same thing. The icon will be green, then go gray until I unplug the cord and plug it back in, then it will work for a while and happen again. These are in major cities with great coverage. Garmin tech says send in the power cord on my dime. I think it's the unit that is the problem.

Tech told me to try this.
If you are still experiencing issues, you may need to clear out the saved FM information that is stored on the device, known as the FM Tables. This can be done by following these steps:

    1. Power your device on
    2. Touch View Map
    3. Touch Speed (If you are currently in a route this may be changed to Arrival)
    4. Touch and hold the middle of the MPH Speedometer
    5. Touch Next until the Blue banner says either “FM Table, GTM Tables, GTM Info” *
    6. Touch Reset
    7. Touch Yes
    8. Touch Quit
    9. Touch Back to return to the main menu

After this is complete, repeat the steps to plug the Traffic Receiver/Vehicle power cable into the vehicle and then into the GPS device or cradle. Allow the device to receive GPS signal along with the FM signal. This process may take up to 20 minutes.

Note: Devices that come with lifetime traffic provide the option to enable or disable the advertisement feature and the traffic services as well. To check to see if your traffic is enabled or disabled:

    1. Select Tools
    2. Select Settings
    3. Select Traffic
    4. Select the box next to Enable Traffic to make it appear.

This will enable the advertising messages and traffic services.

    1390T same thing happening

Im so angry! Bought it on 25 Sept 2010.. 2 weeks ago did an upgrade of software or something and since then its been useless!!

No voice or sound..I play with the mute /unmute and volumes up and down ..turn it off and still nothing!

Not just that- Bluetooth wont connect anymore.. And if i do luckily get it to, it definatley wont be still connected next time I start the GPS.

Finally, my SUNA traffic doesn't work either! Plugged into car and its pathetic.

    Did the hard restart- NOTHING

Called Australia Garmin- Was on hold for half an hour, hanged up..
    Will email them now..

But am very very pissed off. I believe it must be the latest update thats messing everything up..

Does anyone know how to fix it???????????? Desperate as I use it everyday for work and last 2 weeks been using hubbys!!
  • no traffic with 3790T

I am having the same traffic information receiving (or rather not receiving ) info with a 3790T.

I get non traffic icon until about 40 miles North of London, (on both the M1 and M40, not exactly side roads) , North of the London orbital M25.

They traffic only stays green (or red if i'm very unlucky, although by then it is too late to avoid the traffic).

After a few miles it goes grey and stays like that all the way to Birmingham.

It's useless and not functioning as advertised. All support has suggested is returning the cable for a replacement. Has this worked for any one?
Is there a way to rest the 3790T or are all nuvi's "broken"

I am on my second 1490T due to traffic issues. The new one doesn't show any traffic icon-green circular with two cars- even when enabled and in prime Navteq coverage area. No amount of restarting, resetting, etc. helps either.

I did notice the changed the design of the GTM25 reciever, but it hasn't helped. I am dissapointed that such a good company would have a product with such poor performance.

    Fix this Garmin.

Well after numerous emails, Garmins response to a broken 3 day old unit is for me to pay to ship the traffic receiver back to them and wait 2-4 weeks while they send another one. This is horrible customer service from a once great company.
  • Traffic does NOT work.

But has ANY one got a traffic enabled NUVI that works?

is there any point returning the power lead/units if its a design feature?

Hoe many garmin support people does it take to change a light bulb...
none they just say that dead bulb is a feature!

Steve, who you can guess is not very happy with the situation.

I can't tell you how many 1490T's I have seen go back at Costco. I will keep taking them back until I get one that works, or until they have a similar unit. Garmin can keep losing money by ignoring customers.

The fact they have no auto forum proves they have many problems.

I'm in Seattle, and my green icon comes on every time-I've had it 5 days now, but no chance to verify if the data changes colors.
