Can't see the track on the map

Hi there,

for some reason I can't see the track of my activity on the map in Garmin connect. But the track points exist. If I export it to KML and open it in Google Earth it's all there. The map in Garmin Connect even shows the correct area. Just the track itself is not shown. Only the "End" point of the workout. I have the feeling I just need to push a button or so :) Here's two screenshots, so you know what I mean.

First what it looks like in my activity view

And this is what it looks like if I paste the "Google Earth" link from my activity view into maps.google.com...

The track points are obviously there. Why aren't they shown on the map inside Garmin Connect?
  • I have the same exact issue with a few different rides. One of them is here.

    Anyone with a solution??

  • Same here, but it will display properly in Mapmytracks

Anyone know whats going on??? And more importantly is there a fix?
  • No response overnight from the forum so I've raised it with Garmin Support, which can take up to 3 days for an answer. Hopefully they will be able to reply a bit faster.

  • All I got was that it was a "glitch" in the Uploading of the activity. The strange thing is that the activity does still show in the GC Player (I hadn't checked that prior to posting) and in all other external programmes.

I've not had a chance to do another activity since but hopefully this will only be a one-off.

Anyone else had a repeat of this error?

It happened in 6 of my 217 activities. It's not an upload problem because when I delete the activity and upload it again I see the same problem. It's only a problem in GC (they display fine in GTC, SportTracks, and Run Saturday). As was mentioned previously it also displays fine in the Player but not on the Details page (on GC). I sent an email request to Garmin Support in August, 2009 but I received no reply.
  • When it has happened to me I think that I started and stopped the timer at the same place, I mean it was a loop ride with the exact same start and finish. Anyone else concur?

True. In the GC Player the track is shown. My latest upload worked fine, so I decided to delete the old ones and upload them again. Got the same faulty results... Definitely not a glitch during upload, this is a bug, either in the hardware or the website.

@JPPOWERS: My tracks are usually loop rides, including the latest one, which uploaded fine. For some strange reason in the faulty tracks there is no Start-Point though, only an End-Point. Even in the GC Player.
  • The only reply I got from Garmin Support was this:

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.
I am sorry for your difficulties. I have looked at this activity, and indeed this map does not appear. I think this error may have been caused during the upload process. To see your mapped route, you will need to click on the "Player" option.

Clearly an unsatisfactory reply, as it simply confirms what I already figured out for myself. Its happened again this evening so I've asked for further assistance in resolving the issue. I have nearly 700 activities in GC and this is the first time anything like this has occured.

  • "he thinks" ??? Really, does that sound like an answer to you?

  • Nope, but in fairness he clarified for me in a subsequent email. They have never seen this problem and he's passed it to Garmin Cartography to review it.

However, I upgraded the firmware to V3.2 just released yesterday I think. I did a hard reset (Hold Mode and Power On), and took it with me in the car last night, it reported the track ok. I took it out for 31 miles on the bike this evening and its reported the track again successfully.

Hopefully its fixed itself, but will be interested to see if Garmin Cartography come back with any insight.

Will post here if they do.
