input calorie intake?

On the HEALTH tab there are a number of fields for inputting weight, body fat, etc.

I would really love to be able to manually input my daily calorie intake so that I can figure out my daily calorie deficit. However, the daily-calorie-intake field is greyed out.

There's a note on the page about how the TANITA scale. Putting aside the question of how on earth a scale could possibly know how many calories you consumed that day--and even if it did, I don't have the $250+ to drop on that--is there another way to input the daily calorie intake.

My other option is to copy the Garmin exercise totals into the Livestrong website.

The Daily Calorie Intake feature on selected Tanita Body Fat Monitors is able to automatically calculate the number of calories you need to consume within a 24-hour period in order to maintain your current weight, whenever you monitor your body fat.

This is not a measurement of the number of calories you have consumed, but a calculation of the number of calories needed to maintain weight based on the physiological readings taken by the Tanita scale.

aha, that's how they do it.

back to my original question then. is there a way in Garmin Connect to log the # of calories I have consumed (i.e. eaten) in a day? I don't mean anything fancy like looking up the nutritional value of a Twinkie, just a field to enter number-of-calories-burned-that-day.

I don't see that anywhere, just thought I'd check...
