what are the current up to date versions for the 60Cx Softare and GPS SW?

mine shows:

Software Version 4.10
GPS SW Version 2.30m

but it says it's UP TO DATE when i run the garmin updater.

my brothers same unit, 60Cx, shows 4.00 and 3.00s for his?

what is with the discrepancy, after a quick google, it appears to be different CHIPSET's, but do they really make a difference? is one better then the other?

    SirfIII vs Mediatek chip

I use my 60Csx for geocaching (eight year user). I recently received my THIRD 60Csx via the Garmin $115 factory refurb program. My first two units performed perfectly. My third (current) unit is terrible. I use the compass screen to 'point' me to the waypoint and 'normally (SirfIII)' it will 'stay on point' (even in canyon terrain) all the way until the counter goes below 10 feet, at which time I stop using the GPS and begin searching with immediate results. Now the pointer jumps all over the compass, 25 - 35 feet in every direction. It never 'holds point' in one direction. It's basically useless as a geocaching GPS unless used in a one-acre parking lot with a single lamp post where the cache is hidden.

After reading another forum I was pretty shocked to learn that Garmin has replaced the Sirf III with another chip, Mediatek  (if it ain't broke,......) so I checked and sure 'nuf I have Software v4.20 and GPS Software v2.40m ('m' denotes Mediatek) -not- what I originally purchased.

All that to ask this: Is there a software patch/update that makes the 'm' chip perform the way the Sirf III does/did? I originally purchased the Csx for the Sirf III and now the old switcharoo has been pulled.

I purchased a 62s but it's no better:(:(. Two Garmin handlelds, and both are now well, well below the performance I'm accustomed to.

I won't pay another $115 to Garmin for reduced performance. My 8-year love affair with Garmin is seriously on the rocks if I can't fix this w/o additional $$$.

Repeat: If I can't fix this my 8-year love affair with Garmin is seriously on the rocks...

Does anyone have any recommendations or solutions? Note that I'm an 8-year user so don't ask me if I've tried new batteries or if my compass is turned on....
