305 Display Issues

Ok I've seen similar issues in other thread but don't believe the question was answered so let me try.. Forerunner 305 I customized the running field to 3 items and cycling 2. Manual states that you can quickly switch sports by holding the mode button for a second until a list pops up showing your sports. Highlight the one you want and hit enter and you're there. Well it simply does not work. I do exactly what it says and the display does not change. Oddly enough if I do the above hit the mode button and page cycle through the menus (making no changes) when it flips back to the display it changes. So I gave up and figured I'd customize display one to the 3 values I want and call it good but I get all the options except speed.. That category isn't even shown on the list. .. What gives?

Thanks!
  • There is a main field display which does not change if I remember correctly. It is the sport specific fields beneath that that do.

Set your 305 to autoscroll or manually change by using the up or down buttons on the side.

Hmm I see that but it is a bit deceiving. The point is it is implied by the manual and the unit that you hold the mode key and can swap sports and your custom display in one crack. Not have to scroll through the various displays. What would be the purpose of holding the mode key to change sports? Is it simply to change how the data reads when plugged into a computer (30 mins running 45 mins cyling) and has no bearing on what is currently being displayed? If that were so why the ability to go in and customize the running and cycling displays? It's a complete waste of time. Leads one to believe that this function is bogus..?

Not deceiving. It's the way the device works. It's not difficult to understand once you've read the manual. If you still cannot follow then I suggest you go back to the salesperson and ask them to explain it in a way that you can understand.

If you don't like the way it works then you might want to try to get your money back. Especially if you really do feel the function to be bogus and misleading.
