Delete preloaded City Navigator North America NT

I have a streetpilot 2720 with the preloaded City Navigator North America NT 2008 and just updated to the numaps onetime 2009 City Navigator North America NT.

I need to find out if there is a way to delete the numaps onetime 2009 City Navigator North America NT off the gps, or to delete both software maps, so i can do a fresh reinstall of the preloaded City Navigator North America NT 2008 with the dvd that came with the gps.

    Just guessing here.
    You should print this mess.
You need to have MapSource on your computer. Then you need to install the map from the DVD and it will go into MapSource. Connect your gps to the computer then in MapSource > Utilities > Manage Maps > and see if the map is locked. If it is click on the map and "Unlock on line" and follow the directions.

My 705 can only have 1 detailed map in its main memory and 1 detailed map on the SD card. Both maps have the same name "gmapsupp.img" and the unit sorts it out somehow. I would explore the Garmin folder that shows up as E or F drive for your gps and see if you can find a very large file like 1500000KB with a name like gmapsupp.img. The 705 also has a small file, 13000KB, named "gmapbmap.img" which is the base map. If you see one like that just leave it. So if you find what you think is the map make a folder somewhere named "Original Map" or something and cut and paste that IMG file out of the gps into the folder so you can put it back if you want. If there are 2 big IMG files like one in an SD card, you will need 2 folders and remember which file goes where.

When/after map is unlocked, in MapSource, use the pull down menu and select the City Nav map you want. Set the zoom to 1500mi. There should be a small map covering US, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, Puerto Rico. Click the Map Tool then click outside the map upper left corner and hold it while dragging down past the lower right corner of the map and release. Over in the left column click the Maps tab and there should be all the maps that were on the DVD, over 100 maps and over 1GB.

Then up top click > Transfer > Send to Device > Select or Find your unit (or SD card) > Maps > Send. It will take a long time 1-2 hours maybe more.

Then fire up your gps and find the menu that tells you what map and version you are using and see if it's correct. If it doesn't work you can try copying and pasting one map at a time (that you previously cut out and saved) back into the gps and see what happens when you fire it up.

Remember, I have done this with my 705 but not your gps so this is just a guess on my part. Good luck,
