"Time" is just that, the time of day at some particular point.

"Elapsed Time" is the total amount of hours-minutes-seconds that your devise was on from the "time" you hit start until the "time" you hit stop.

"Moving Time" is the "Elapsed Time" minus all the amounts of time where you were "stopped".

"Average Speed" is the total distance covered divided by the "Elapsed Time".

"Average Moving Speed" is the total distance covered divided by the "Moving Time".

Don, thanks for the info. That's kind of what I figured.

Though it's the "time" that still doesn't make total sense to me. I'm not saying you are wrong....especially since I don't have the correct answer.....but what I find strange is that the "time" is usually really close to what the total "moving time".

For example: this is from some people that I pulled there routes who live in my zip code. first is riding, second running (less than an hour)

check out the "time" vs "moving time" and help me understand it better.

    thanks again,

Well I'm not sure why the times are different on the Mandeville track. I do not use "Auto Stop" but maybe that is why??

The first recorded time on the tcx file is 15:57:23Z
The last recorded time on the tcx file is 19:03:55Z
That gives an "Elapsed Time" of 3:06:32 which agrees with GC data.

The tcx file recorded a TotalTimeSeconds of 7989 = 2:13:09 which GC says is the "Time".

The "Moving Time" is calculated by the GC software at 2:11:47 and I cannot check that.

GC used "Distance" & "Moving Time" to get "Avg Moving Speed" which makes sense to me.

Then GC used "Distance" & "Time" to get "Avg Speed" which seems incorrect to me. I have always thought that "Avg Speed" was based on "Elapsed Time".

Hopefully a Garmin Tech will straighten this out.

    here's what Garmin replied....

"Time is the total time. The total time figure displays the amount of
time that the device was actually recording during the activity. So, if
you had your timer stopped, it would still record under Elapsed Time but
your total time would be stopped. This is why you can see a difference
of 5 minutes between your elapsed time and your time (total time)."

here's my activity that the reply above is referring to.....

makes sense to me now, hope it helps all who are reading this.
