Oregon 450 Questions

Oregon 450. I've loaded Topo 24K for "West Coast."

On the map screen, there's a "push pin" icon that seemingly provides coordinates. It moves every time I touch the screen. I'd like to be able to move the map UNDER the pin to read coordinates, OR move the pin to a location on the map. One or the other, but not both!

Any ideas on this one?

Second issue -- I'm in the NW corner of Oregon, literally on the Clatsop Spit at the edge of landfall. When I zoom in on the map screen, this land area is cut off the edge of the display. Yeah, I've waited for it to load.

Third issue --

"Find" on the computer screen (not the GPS). I want to type in coordinates and have them located on the map. I'm NOT interested in "points of interest, hotels, gas, lodging." I bought this GPS for navigation and want to be able to find a specific coordinate on a map -- Just like the find function in Google Earth.

Did I mention that the documentation for Garmin products sux?

I have to agree, the idea of trying to move the map and having a pin appear when you don't want it or trying to move the map under the pin and then the pin moving when you don't want it to is driving me nuts.

Maybe you guys should add a button to the bottom of the map page that toggles the display of a pin in a fixed location, maybe the centre of the screen, and then allow us to move the map without the pin moving. This way we have a choice of whether we want a pin to appear on the map along with the additional info and functionality that is available when a pin appears.

ALLISONWUNDERLAND, regarding the "Find" issue, you don't mention which software and operating system you are using. In BaseCamp on the Mac there are two commands, which surprisingly bring up the same dialog box, "Create Waypoint at Coordinates…" in the "Edit" menu and "Locate Coordinates…" in the "Find" menu that may address your issue. If you're in Windows I can't confirm if the same commands are available.
