This keeps coming up in the forum and has been discussed in other threads for the past several years.
Have you already setup ECG in Garmin Connect? There is a notice during the setup process (see below) but if you're like me, I tend to blow through these things. Perhaps they could highlight the part where it says "cannot be removed from your account," then after tapping "Next" give you a final warning about the irreversible nature of this.
The device isn’t what locks the account into permanent MFA. You can use an ECG‑capable watch and view ECG readings direclty on the wach without changing anything. The permanent MFA requirement only happens once the ECG app is installed and ECG data is viewed inside Garmin Connect. At that moment, Garmin classifies the entire account as having handled medical‑grade information, and the account is moved into a higher‑security category.
I do agree that there should be a way to disable MFA again if Garmin can confirm the ECG app is no longer installed and the data no longer exists. Right now, though, the only way around the permanent MFA requirement is to create a new Garmin account and avoid enabling ECG in Garmin Connect.
It might be worth a shot to contact Product Support, but it's likely you'll get a similar answer.
