cannot see activities with older watch I no longer own

I used my first Garmin watch (645M) from about 2020 to 2024. I gave that one away to a friend and bought a new one (965) to replace it. I seem to have lost all of my activity history with my first watch. (TBH, I never really paid attention to see if I could see it for some time before it disappeared...But it is gone now!) How can I get that back? It has my first marathon and all of the training involved and I wanted to go over that history!

(If I go to my PR page, my older PR activities are still accessible and show that they are attached to the 645. So, I can at least reminisce about some of my PRs! :-)

  • The activity history isn’t connected to your watch; it’s linked to your account. I have activities going back 22 years and have used several different Garmin watches in that time. It is strange though that you can see your old PR's but not the activity associated with them. Make sure on your activity list you don't have any filters being applied.

  • If I go to my PR page, my older PR activities are still accessible

There are minimally two ways how to access old activities without having to wait till the All Activities page loads them all. At a long history, it can be really slow and tedious, and at times when the network connection is slow, or the computer memory is low, the list may stall when loading.

You can use the filter option to show only older activities, in order to avoid loading all of them. For example list all activities from 2024 and before in this way:

    https://connect.garmin.com/app/activities?endDate=2024-12-31

Another way to browse the old activities, is loading one of them (for example from the PR page, from a activities list of an older gear, or from other similar lists), and then using the arrows left or right (to the right side of the activity title) to get to other activities in the same period.

  • So, thanks, folks!  I tried out the approach of going to an old PR and the hitting ">" and it worked! So, then figured everything was really there. The problem: I was doing keyword searches there is something wonky about its UI--if I hit return, it very often doesn't actually to the search and will return 0 results. If I hit the magnifying glass it seems to always work. (This is on the web site interface.)The extra date filter got me to the older activities.

TBH, the much better way for me to get at the info was through reports anyway, and that clearly did have all my old activities. (Doh!)

    Happily reminiscing now.
