my Nuvi 265 will not turn on, held the power button over for 30 sec. Held the lower right of the screen and push power button over, nothing is working. Last I saw it was at full charge. I had the thing for about 20 mins before it crapped out.
Last time I saw that was when the data download was interrupted. It killed the unit. Also, the default position for terminal faults is as you describe, big paperweight. Some are just duff out of the box. Just sent mine back.
I RMA'd it back. I updated the GPS and put the updated maps on it, got in the car and took a drive with it. All was working well until I got home and put a micro SD card in it. After that it was toast, and never turned back on.
