Use profile location as the default map view when creating course.

When creating a course in garmin web, the default view it shows is the entire world.

Similar to what this user worked out 5 years ago, I think it's because it's trying to show all courses you've ever created.

Default Starting Point for Course Planning

My home location is in Australia, where 99% of my courses are. But because I once did a course near London UK - I'm now stuck seeing the whole world every time I create a course.

Also every time I close a course. Very frustrating.

Can there be an option to pick a location as the default view when creating new courses etc? or at least using the location set in my profile would be far more sensible.

Presumably I could delete that 1 london course to fix it, but I shouldn't have to resort to that.

  • Send the suggestion to Garmin: https://garmin.com/ideas

It is showing all your created courses and will zoom out until all starting points fit the screen.

Why not just remove the course in UK? Or if you want to keep it, export it and keep the file in Google Drive or other storage so you can import it when you want to do that course again.

  • Thanks, I might suggest it there.

Removing the 1 UK course improves things slightly, but that still leaves more courses that are in Australia but far from my home city. At some point deleting them to work around this becomes impractical.

  • Do you need those courses? If you don't need them then just remove them. The sooner you start to remove them the sooner the issue will be resolved. I only keep the courses I will use again. I pretty much only do new courses so it is always just a handful.

Quickest way to remove them is to use the app. Long press the course in the list and select delete.

It is unlikely that Garmin will come with a fix in the near future if ever. Especially since it is a corner case that only affects a few users that create courses far away from home.
