Acute Load dropped from 950 to 140, Training Status = No Status

Hi all, has anyone experienced something similar?

I use a Forerunner 265 and Edge 840.

On Saturday I completed a 2-hour ride. The activity uploaded successfully and Acute Load, Training Status and Load Focus all updated correctly.

Later the same day, Acute Load dropped from approximately 950 to 140, Training Status changed to "No Status" and Load Focus became "Not Available".

What's strange is that:

All activities are present.
Exercise Load is still being calculated.
Training Effect is still being calculated.
VO2 Max is unchanged.
Training Readiness is unchanged.
The issue is present on the Edge 840, Forerunner 265, Garmin Connect Mobile and Garmin Connect Web.

I've synced and restarted both devices, but the issue remains.

Has anyone seen this before or found a way to trigger a recalculation of Acute Load, Load Focus and Training Status?

  • No Status usually indicates that not enough VO2 max values have been logged in the past two weeks. You need 1-2 values logged per week to keep your status. Post your 4 week VO2 max graph.

  • Actually, according to the documentation at Why Is My Training Status Not Updating on My Garmin Device? | Garmin Customer Support, "Watches compatible with HRV Status no longer need a VO2 Max estimate generated in order to get Training Status. However, for best results we do still recommend getting a VO2 Max Estimate".

Forerunner 265 belongs to that group of watches with HRV Status. So, it looks like the HRV Status may be missing. Do you wear the watch overnight? How does the HRV Status graph look like, in the last days?

  • Maybe it takes some time to do the switch from VO2 max to HRV Status. I haven't read and tested how that works in practice. There are still lots of users that suddenly get No Status even if they got watches with HRV Status.

The change from VO2max to HRV was made a long time a go. I'd tell around a year, or so, perhaps even longer, so I do not think that VO2max plays a role here, unless the watch runs a very old firmware. Though I think the change was done before FR265 was released.

  • ... I've just checked Archive.org - the change in the documentation was done between Dec 2023 and Aug 2024, so some 2 years ago:

  • Thanks both.

    A few additional observations:

    • Acute Load was approx. 950 and Training Status was available after a 2-hour ride yesterday
    • The ride uploaded successfully and Exercise Load / Training Effect were calculated correctly
    • Several hours later Acute Load dropped to 140, Training Status changed to "No Status" and Load Focus became "Not Available"
    • VO₂ Max, HRV, Training Readiness and all activities remain present
    • The issue is the same on the FR265, Edge 840, Garmin Connect Mobile and Garmin Connect Web

I've attached the VO2 Max graph and HRV Status for reference. I see VO2 Max hasn't updated for last week yet.

My guess is that this is the issue why the training status now is No Status. Verify by logging a new VO2 max value and see if you get your training status back to a status again.

For cycling VO2 max values a power meter is required. For running you just need to log an outdoor activity with high enough HR.

  • Could you post a screenshot of the page https://connect.garmin.com/app/report/-1/all/last_four_weeks. Please scale it down (Ctrl+wheel down) so, that the first four graphs (VO2, HRV, EL, ATL) fit into the screen

  • Yes, there was a sudden drop of ATL a few days ago. That happens either when the watch-Connect association is broken (i.e. accidentally associated with a secondary account), or perhaps due to a mishap during a firmware update. I recommend to Remove and Add the Device From the Garmin Connect App | Garmin Customer Support. You may then need to wait a week or two to see whether it helped. Doing some runs or rides triggering the VO2max detection, as Andy recommended, can help getting it back faster.
