Wrong load values across activities

Hi everyone, while analyzing my recent activities, I came across a few discrepancies, such as the following:

- 155 km bike ride connect.garmin.com/.../23007220790

- 45 km bike ride connect.garmin.com/.../22979112047

- 11 km run connect.garmin.com/.../22937910079

In my opinion, the excercise load values aren’t realistic; they’re listed here as 59, 102, and 154, respectively—so the ride that was by far the longest has the lowest load.

The data was recorded using an Edge 530 (cycling) with heart rate data from a Forerunner 265; naturally, the Forerunner 265 records the runs on its own. I’m not sure what could be causing this. Do you have any ideas? The issue of course makes all metrics that are based on this like rest time etc. completely useless...

Thank you very much for any feedback!

Best regards, J. Klein

  • You'll need to change the privacy settings to "Everyone," at least temporarily, so we can see the activities you linked.

  • The level of training load depends mainly on the intensity of the workout, i.e., on the ratio of HR/HRmax. The average HR's are:

    - for 155 km bike ride: 119 bpm

    - for 45 km bike ride: 131 bpm

    - for 11 km run: 148 bpm

I don’t know the exact formula for calculating training load, as this is a Garmin secret. But the load values of 59, 102, and 154 seem plausible given the HR's. Of course, a longer workout can tire the body more, but this fatigue isn't the same as training load.
