Web based course designer now very buggy

I use Chromium on a Raspberry pi5 (8GB ram) running stock Bookworm.

Website course designer has worked very well for years.

Now with the new version I get regular crashes while adding points. The screen goes white and I can't do anything with the map, but the menu still works. So I have to start again. It does it randomly.

There used to be a very useful reverse course facility that was able to reroute around roundabouts. Now when I reverse the start & end points it makes no attempt to reroute the roundabouts and when I attempt to move points or add & move points on the roundabouts, road rerouting automatically takes over and draws lines everywhere seemingly trying to - well, who knows what.

When selecting my British postcode as a start point, it no longer properly centers on my house. So after zooming in, I then have to drag the screen around to find my house.

I know we can't go back to the old website but please stop changing things for change's sake and in the process break what was a very good tool.

  • I've not had any crashes.

Reverse course doesn't re-route correctly at roundabouts but if I add a Course Point to the correct side, it seems to work ok.

When selecting my British postcode, the map is correctly centered and zooms in correctly when I use the +/- keys but zooms into the cursor (hand icon) placement if I use the scoll button on my mouse.

  • Can I ask which browser you use & your platform?

I've used the pi/chromium combination for years and never had issues until now. I will try with Firefox tomorrow but it's not the best performing browser on the pi.

  • Firefox also crashes randomly when adding points.
I dont think it is random, I got it repetitively when placing points similarly. Once I changed the patern of my points, it did not "bug" anymore.

  • I have had this using Chrome on both Windows and Mac. Course map frequently freezes. Also, dragging the map seems to cause erroneous points to be added far more than it used to before the course creator's recent update. Clicking undo too quickly will also sometimes zoom the map (and sometimes add a new point).

I have lost a lot of courses mid-way through planning.

  • Well, I've now tried with an up to date Firefox browser on the same Raspberry Pi platform and have had so many crashes that it is not worth even trying to design a course now. And I have used this very same platform for years without issue. For me it is totally random. Sometimes the screen of the map goes white for a few seconds (up to 5) and comes back to life. Other times it just stays white for ever. A refresh takes me back to where I was before I started editing the course (I save regularly!) When the map goes white, the rest of the website menus continue to work. I've seen this on courses of less than 20 miles as well as larger courses.

  • I'm having the same issues on Chrome and Safari. Both updated to latest versions. It's very obvious a Garmin Connect regression of some sort and it's extremely cringe that they're trying to blame this on the browsers. It's been like this for a while now and I've almost given up designing routes until they hot fix this or go back to an earlier version where it was less buggy.
