Routing issues in Colorado 300

See attached image. This is my MapSource window and the inset is a screen capture from my Colorado showing the same route.

I have a Colorado 300 and the Garmin 24k Topo software for the Eastern US National Parks. When I plan out a route in Mapsource, it follows the trail, but when I view the same route on the GPS it does NOT follow that trail.

What am I doing wrong? I'm trying to plan a complex loop trip in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and would like to be able to follow a track or route on the GPSr.

I have the same in French, so I don't know if translation in English is ik, but you must change in parameters fields : guidance method > on road time or distance (you have now something like "bird fly"
