Oregon 450t NiMh battery problems

Hello everyone!

Some time ago I bought a brand new Garmin Oregon 450t and Sony BCG-34HRMF charger with 4 rechargeable 2700mAh batteries included. First we charged all batteries before putting them into Garmin for first time.
Later by following the guide we did that and switched it to NiMh battery type under Options.
But here comes the problem. We already had only 3 out of 4 stripes while switching on the Device with fully charged batteries. After some minutes it went to 2 stripes. So we were using it for some time and thats it, batteries were dead. So we changed them to 2 another fully charged NiMh batteries. Wondering again on only having 2 of 4 stripes for battery status. We got very indignant about that.. I went to shop nearby and bought 2 Duracel batteries. Device is working with them for many hours already and we only lost 1 of 4 stripes now.
As I am a bit dissapointed, I will try to explain some things, so I expect not to see answers which arent true. First of all, rechargeable NiMh batteries are 1.2v while standart AA batteries are 1.5v. All 4 NiMh batteries I mentioned before are tested and they arent dead. Measurements were 1,238v and around 6A current while fully charged, so its more than enough. Also tried them on Digital Camera and they are shown full still after using the Flash for 5 times.
So, my question is - what can cause that problem? Is there any way how to let the device think that really NiMh batteries are placed in it? Because as I understand, the thing is simple. If i choose the Lithium battery setting (Lithium batteries are 3,7v) my rechargeable NiMh's are shown almost empty, which is true, because they together only have 2,4v. By seeing this, its not hard to figure out that my Garmin doesn't feel any difference if I use the normal 1.5v battery setting or NiMh rechargeable 1.2v battery setting.

Any solutions or suggestions?

Thanks for reading, and sorry for bad english!

Ok, what i found out on google that more people are having a similar problem only with a little difference. Even with less powerfull batteries their Devices work on last stripe for several hours. In our case it worked maybe 2 or 3 hours in total.

I discovered some time ago that, even on NiMH setting, my Oregon 450t warns "Batteries Low" when the cell voltage drops below around 1.3V. Check your cells' datasheet and you'll probably find that this happens after between 10% and 20% of discharge.
