Changing default Explore Activities map location

Every time I click into the "Activities" page my map centers on Slovenia. As cool as it is to see what people are doing on the other side of the world, it would be nice to have an option to default to my city/neighborhood.

I can't figure out how to change this and just contacted Garmin Support via email. Sure wish this would default to my location or give me option to change.

Annoying eh!?

I live in Banff, Alberta, Canada, and my Explore map also defaults to Austin TX.
Not only would I like to see a preference for "default map location", but a way get back to my location search after examining the "details" of a particular activity.

Example: 1.) I click on "Explore" and search by location for Banff.
2.) I click on "show details" for a activity that I'm interested in.
3.) Now I want to go back and examine other activities. How?
4.) I click the dreaded Back button in my browser (Safari).
5.) Up comes good ol' Austin TX again...

Can't a location be calculated (even a rough calculation) by my IP address??

+ 1 from me.. I get somewhere in germany. Would prefer that you grabbed my country and postal number...
And would also like to be able to set shown activities to a specific type only (road biking for me)..
• It can be done; Firefox & redirector = win!

Hi all,

As this is a common featured request I thought I would register and show how I worked around the issue. The default location changes each week depending on number of uploads or something, but as the links never change we override this on the browser side and force the location to be whatever you want :D

To set your default location to YOUR default location you will need to use:
• Firefox browser
• Redirector plugin

So install Firefox & the plugin or if you're already a Firefox user then just download the plugin and restart FF. This should now show 'R' icon in lower right corner - you can turn Redirector on/off my clicking the icon.

Now browse to Garmin Connect | Explore page and it will show the current default map. Enter your chosen default location and hit search, if you want to adjust the map drag it around and hit the search again.

Now copy the URL from the address bar, it should look like this:

connect.garmin.com/explore

With either a location or GPS coordinates embedded in the URL.

Now right click on the 'Explore' link on the blue tab and select 'Add link URL to redirector'

In the dialogue box, copy your URL (with the custom coordinates) into the 'Redirect To', overwriting the default http://connect.garmin.com/explore.

Click Ok.

The next time you click Explore or the sub link, Activities it will take you to your default location. :D

Hope this help everyone.

@ Musiker DK.

Use the instructions above but just filter the search first, the URL will then contain. 'activityType=road_biking&' somewhere in URL. :D

For example:
connect.garmin.com/explore

Me too

Good workarounds, but i'd still like to see something added to GC.

Either:
1) recording location against user profile
2) going to your last activity
3) remembering the last location you entered

Any of the above would be better than going to Edmonton / Austin / Slovenia or some other location.

Don't get me wrong, there's absolutelty nothing wrong with these locations per se, just i'm never going to do any training there or be interested in anyone else's training routes or times in that area.

Thanks for listening

Default to address in account, please

And allow override to put in an address, and mark it "default". This seems like a bug Garmin needs to address. My map defaults to Edmonton...no where near me.
• Same problem

Mine defaults to Perth Australia. I'm not a website designer, but how hard can it be?
