Acute Load Formula

In a locked thread, some swore they broke the code.... the suggested Garmin takes the Exercise Load, multiplies it by 28%, then applies a 10-day linear weight.

Nope. I checked. This doesn't work. Yesterday, Garmin says my Acute Load was 911, and that approach shows 799.

Anyone have a better idea?

  • Difficult to know for sure. And if the 10-day linearly decreasing weight is correct, the correct factor would be 7/5.5 = 1.2727... (The old Garmin weekly load had a weight of 1 for each day, summing up 0.1 ... 1 only gives 5.5, so that factor is needed to bring the newer acute load to the same levels as the old one.)

Also, I think you made a mistake in the calculation of acute load on 27-Mar, you are using the weights for 28-Mar, but those of course were 0.1 greater the previous day...

With those, you'll probably get a little closer, but I've never got those numbers to match exactly.

  • Ah - that explains the multiplier! Thanks. I updated my calcs to use 7/5.5. But that actually decreases the 27-Mar value from 799 to 794. On 27-Mar my exercise load was 114. So I multiplied by 7/5.5 (to 145.1) and then used the weight of 0.9 to get 130.6. Slightly less than in the OP. Am I missing something about the weights?

  • As I mentioned above, if you are calculating the acute load for March 27th, the correct weight for that day is 1.0 (and 0.9 is used for March 26th). The weights are sliding forwards by one each day.

  • Oh nvm... duh... I need to shift the weight each day. Got it
